History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
This is a topic I am interested in and have started threads on before. A few others have started threads as well, but I wanted to have a single thread to compile all the info we know about these cars. According to compnine, there were only about 32 of the cars total with 1LE and heritage package. I started a long time ago compiling info on the cars that had popped up in the forums and decided to put it into a formal list in one location. Note: there may be more than 32 cars as I have seen before that compnine may not have a full list, but I suspect the total is less than 40 anyway and it may be 32 on the dot. Here is the breakdown of cars according to compnine.
9 red 305/5 speed
6 red 350/ auto
6 white 305/ 5 speed
4 white 350/Auto
3 black 305/ 5 speed
2 black 350/auto
1 purple 305/5 speed
1 purple 350/ auto
Here are the ones I know of:
1. Red 305/ 5spd owned by don siddall (160443)
2. Red 305/ 5spd sold at barret Jackson (118755)
3. Red 305/ 5spd owned by Speedfreek (136960)
4. Red 305/ 5spd owned by Vertigo Z28 (119715)
5. Red 305/ 5spd owned by Thirdgen Ranch/ LFN AT U
6. Red 305/ 5spd owned by detltu (113496)
7. Red 350/ Auto owned by lstreich1961(156020)
8. White 350/ Auto owned by GM Heritage Collection
9. White 350/ Auto owned by ev305tpi (135202)
10. Purple 305/ 5spd parted out and crushed (141388)
11. Purple 350/ Auto owned by 3rdGen1LENut (143106)
12. White 350/Auto sold on Bring a trailer (107435)
I am going to PM all of the owners identified here and see if they will share some pics or details of their cars. If anyone knows of a car for sale, or knows an owner not listed above please let me know. Unfortunately without a sequence # it is hard to tell if a car is double listed so we may have to do some clean up if we are able to identify more cars. I have a few notes on each of the cars listed to help identify if they are mentioned more than once. Things like mileage, interior color, or location.
Anyways if you can help in any way please do and if there are any heritage related questions or cars for sale hopefully we can tie them in to this thread.

Re: 1992 Camaro Z28 1LE Heritage (ZO3) registry
I saw a red/red leather 5.0/5 spd crank window 1LE w/ Heritage at Pohanka Chevy in Chantilly VA back in 92. It was on the showroom floor, and sat for some time. Crank windows, I am sure, was why.

Very cool. I haven't seen any 1LE's that didn't have crank windows but I have heard it could be ordered that way. Red 5.0/ 5 speed was the combo they made the most of, but the red leather makes it more unique.
The car that sold at barret Jackson actually had red leather interior:
You're calling this a registry, but it isn't without you also having the VIN. You need that VIN for accurate documentation. Without it, you get what you mentioned above and may have issues with duplicates or invalid "registration".

But...
The one I saw at Pohanka very well may have been the car at the auction. Who knows. I didn't get the VIN, so unless someone has the paperwork to see the delivering dealer, it'll be impossible to count.
Noble idea, but VIN is the only reference in this case, unfortunately.

True, I am tracking VIN numbers as well, but don't have many of them. The ones with (XXXXX) after them are actually sequence numbers (last 6 digits of the VIN). But you are correct that without the VIN It will be difficult to eliminate duplicates. In my excel file I have as much detail as I can find. Interior color, last known mileage, last known location, other options. The RPO sheet is the most important thing though. It has the VIN and all options and confirms that it is an actual 1LE with Z03.

Yep, I agree. I won't add the car you mentioned to the registry because as you said there is no way to know if it is the same as another car and could be anywhere since 1992.
The only way to add it to the registry is to have a picture of the RPO sheet, or enough pictures of the car to convince me that it is a car not otherwise listed. So far interior color seems to be one of the big differences between the cars that helps identify them but even that will only get you so far.
I do appreciate people sharing stories of cars they have come across though.
I know of one in Orange County, CA. White, red Heritage stripes, red leather, 5.7, auto. No radio, no a/c. 413 miles on it. Still in the original owners hands.

Very cool. Do you know the owner personally or have any pics of the car? Any info you could provide I will try to track down the owner to see if I can get enough info to add it to the list.
The owner is 90+ years old and a little hard of hearing. Let me know what info you need and I’ll see if I can get it from him. He contacted me when I purchased the last 92 and we have visited about once per year since then. I hadn’t heard from him for a while, so I called him a couple months ago and he is still living on his own.

The most important piece is the RPO sheet. That has the VIN and all of the options for the car. Beyond that any pictures of the car- exterior, interior, and any other documentation he has would be awesome. Window stickers etc.
Here are a few pics of mine. 6,300 original miles. Original paint, gatorbacks, L98. Vin 135202. The original owner kept it in fantastic shape and I have had it now for three years. It's a great car, I love it Incredible history paperwork.
Leonard, i'd love to see any photos of that car as it sounds like it's one of the remaining two white auto cars. Also, I have always LOVED your car by the way!!! I read about it as a kid and was a huge influence on my car collection that I have today!
I don’t think he has a cell phone, so probably no digital camera either. I’ll see what I can find out.
Understood. The VIN would be the most important then. I can use compnine to pull the RPO codes I believe. That would confirm it is a Z03 1LE. Also the current mileage and any other details of his car he is willing to share.

Thanks for posting! I have added your sequence number to the list. With the tan interior it is a unique car.
Your thread was actually the one that renewed my desire to document these cars. When I saw you post yours and 3rdGen1LEnut posting pics I thought making a registry was a realistic possibility. I debated whether I should resurrect that thread or start a new one and decided to start a new one.

Thanks! From the sounds of it, two of the other three white L98 cars had the red interior. I'm curious if the remaining one did as well making mine the only one with the tan. I have been told that interior color was 92 only, a little lighter than the previous camel tan color.
ev305tpi, beautiful car! I will try to get more info on the car. Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you so much for the compliment Leonard!! Honestly, it's an honor to chat with you! I had a photo of your car on my wall growing up that I clipped from some article. It's fantastic that you still have it all of these years later!!

Wouldn't surprise me at all if yours is the only white /tan combo.

I honestly didn't put it together who Leonard was until you mentioned this. Great opportunity to go back and review his website. Truly an amazing car and great to have you helping out for putting this together.
I made some progress tonight. Found the VIN for the car sold at Barret Jackson (added to top post). Found some more pictures of the car in the GM heritage collection which is cool. Apparently if you sell a car to the heritage collection you still have some visitation rights!?
Also found mention of a Black/red car. The first black/red one for the list if it pans out. I've made my first attempt at contacting the owner.

I'm hopeful that it is. The original owner special ordered it that way and I love the way it looks.
Yes, there is a guy named Jamie who Jason and I know through FB. He is the original owner of his car, black with red stripes, 1k miles, 350 car. I'll ping him as well to see if he wants to add anything. There is also another guy named Kevin who owns one of the red 5-speed cars, not sure if that is what you have accounted for above.
A little more information on the one in California. It does have red leather. The gentleman is 92 now and does not have a cell phone. He is going to have a nephew take a picture or photocopy the build sheet and he will mail it to me. He said the car still has 413 miles and has not moved or been started in 20 years. He now has a 2016 Camaro that he drives!!

Anything we can get would be helpful. Even if it is one of the cars already accounted for it would be great to get some more pics and info. Most of what I have is limited to a few notes like mileage, interior color, etc. Anything they would be willing to share would be great. Surprising how many of the cars are actually really low mileage. At least three of the cars are around 1k miles. Looking at my notes, the black one I found mention of has around 70k miles so it looks like this would be a separate one.

Gorgeous car speedfreak! Nice to see you still have your mustang collection as well! I have always loved your 92 prototype car, its gorgeous! I remember seeing pics of it a few years ago
Updated the first post. LFN AT U is actually the owner of Thirdgen ranch so I had one listed twice. I have corrected the top post. Please continue to post here if you have any updates.

Thanks man. I really like your white car. Looks great. Hard to believe I'm a GM man at hear with all these dang mustangs hanging around lol.
Well, I ended up buying this car. Decided to join the club since I was so interested. I have picked the car up and brought it home. It needs a little work but it's in pretty good shape overall.
I'm getting ready to move into a new house with a nice garage so once that is all done I will try to post up some new pics and get back on tracking these cars down.
Some items I have found that will need to be addressed:
Drivers seat torn- shouldn't be a problem
Exhaust - missing SLP cat back and missing the dual cats (cats completely removed)
Owner told me it's missing the SLP chip- Haven't seen one of these for sale so that may be tough to replace.
Stripes- pinstriping around the stripes is in bad shape.

have you checked to actually see if they removed the SLP chip? I have one for a 90-92 305 5 speed. It's currently installed on my 1991 Z28 1LE. Haven't decided if I will be removing it or not. But if I do, I'll be sure to get in contact with you. I was actually trying to buy that car from Tim. Was sad when I saw he sold it. So I bought another 91 1LE with 2k miles

I would definitely love to get one. I haven't actually checked on the SLP chip but I would like to replace it if it is missing. Let me know.
Quick update for me, About a month after I bought the car my wife and I adopted a baby, moved into a new house, and I started a new job. Needless to say I haven't had much time to work on the car besides messing with the trunk pull down. I will update on that later.
Finally had a chance to upload a few pics in the new house. Also good news, it does have the SLP chip in it .Need to get to work cleaning a few things up. The passenger sun visor is missing and i think it needs some suspension work.
