Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

Good morning 3rdgen

Now that I finally have the IROC running great from start up to drive (anywhere) I was wondering if there would be any more room for improvement by playing with the SA - Main Table.

I do not have a wideband so there won't be much WOT tuning done till I get one. Any experience with this table for a stock 89 IROCZ with the 350 TPI? Base timing is 6 degrees.

Thanks!

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

You can advance timing until you get knock retard . Then back off the timing until it’s gone.

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

I've had two good experiences putting a Corvette timing map into a Camaro... Corvette is significantly more aggressive.

One was before my Miniram I had TPI and I put in the ANHT spark map and noticed a seat of the pants improvement over the AUJP.

The other was after the Minram I started with the LT1 Camaro map and then switched to the LT4 Corvette map, and again noticed a nice seat of the pants improvement.

Now, in both cases I was running aluminum heads with 9.8:1 compression on pump gas (locally 91 octane where I live).

Not sure how the car would react with iron heads and whatever compression is stock for a TPI Camaro (~9:1?). But you could start with the Vette map and then back off from there if you get knock counts. If your final map is still more aggressive than the Camaro and you still have an improvement, then you're that much farther ahead.

I started doing this last night. Work in progress! Thanks!

I will have to retrieve the Vette map. I started playing with the timing last night and I have noticed a difference low to mid range. The knock retard happens mostly around 2800 to 3400 RPMs at WOT although there has been some retarding happening around those cells. In the 2800 to 3400 RPMs @ WOT I was around 20.04 degrees and brought it down to 17 last night. This change reduced the knock retard but didn't stop it. I then tried 15 degrees and it worked for two cells in the 2800 rpms area. Stopped completely. Just now at work I reduced it to 10 degrees in some of the 3200 RPMS cells @ WOT. We'll see tonight on my way home. I am hoping I can get all the knock retarding to stop and then just add 1 or 2 degrees till they come back. From there back off 2 and leave it.

Thank you for both your responses!

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

I dyno'd the vette timing on stock l98 and gained nothing. Its too aggressive for stock iron heads.

I usually just clean up the stock table, smooth it out and zero the pe mode advance, and put that timing back into main table

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

Is the stock iron head L98 Bin $6E?

If so maybe I should just copy paste the SA table from it?

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

I noticed that all the bins from $6E mask use MAF tables. The SA table looks more aggressive than that one I am currently using. Can too low of timing cause knock retards?

Ok thank you.

I have changed it since the one I posted. In fact, even with that one there was some knock retard at WOT.

Is the bin you're referring to the Super 8DM2? Where can I find the AUJP 8D?

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

Gearhead efi site used to have all the bin downloads

If you are seeing retard just back it down in the 90-100 columns at the rpm you see issues

Looks like sd $8d or ebl . Rbob has some great starter tunes with the ebl based off factory tunes with the addition of bbc and even a vortec tune. Ebl_p4_3005

I did that this morning because on my way to work those cells with 15.85 degrees advance was triggering the knock retard. I now have it at 10 degrees to try on my way home from work. We'll see.

Thank you for the link. I need to register to be able to gain access to the files. I misplaced my EBL Flash disc when I moved to my new apartment. In there was the EBL bins that Rbob suggested to load into documents. I may still have the original bin file and I know I didn't change any parameters in there except to make a copy of it.

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

I just got two AUJP Bins from gearhead EFI. One is just AUJP and the other is AUJP_90_F_car_5.7TPI. I will do a comparison between my current SA with these two.

Orr89Rocz I will check that now.

That looks like it. Or any other table that is adding spark. I usually zero those out and work out of the main table

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

I am having trouble understanding the SA - PE adder vs Gear/RPM table. The row that shows values is called Zero??

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

Not sure myself but i would guess zero means the timing per gear is not setup to work and its just using those values globally in all gears. So add whats in there to main table to see total timing

Re: Tunerpro - SA - Main Table

You have it, with a manual transmission can set up the N/V ratio table and vary the PE per gear & RPM.

With an automatic can only use row Zero as N/V doesn't work with an unlocked TCC.

RBob.
