Hi,

I want to paint my 84 Camaro next spring. I absolutely want to install my Gold factory 15'' mags (the same mags than on the picture of the black car below) and paint the bottom of the car in gold.
I hesitates between two colors :

-Dark red metallic






-Black like this


Brown and gold?





Black is really really nice and I love this color (My father had the same color in his 82 Camaro), but I'm not sure the body job will be absolutely perfect, so defaults will appear more easily. Also, the A/C will not be in service this summer.
I really like dark red metallic too, so it could be a nice option two.

Which one do you prefer?

My interior is grey, but maybe I'll find a clean tan interior someday.

 

Me? I'd go dark red.

I love the gold on the metallic red, monochromatic Irocs, but with the accent colored GFX like the z28s, I don't care for the metallic red.

-with the gold wheels and z28 GFX, I vote, brown, white or black.

 

That dark red looks pretty high class when coupled with the tan interior I think. I agree with above that the brown can look great and is under appreciated - you'll likely be the only brown at a local show. The black is always classic and has the nostalgia to your dad's car.

If it were me I would tell the body shop you were 100% on black. Then they will do a better job. Just let them know if you change your mind before they put the primer down, lol. Post pics when it's done.

 

Ya, that's the problem because the wheels you are using aren't high class to match. The package won't pull together and the wheels will stand out like a sore thumb.

Stay with solid colors (no metallics) that aren't too brilliant, and simple color combos and it will look better with those wheels.

Here is a pic that would be pretty close to your car with the dark red and gold combo. Looks pretty classy to me. But gold Z28 wheels would be better.

 

Something that I think is important, regardless of the car's base color, is the vinyl stripe that goes above the GFX. If you look at stock GM stripes, they essentially fade the GFX color into the body color. Look at the white, brown, and black cars pictured. They all have that stripe. The silver GFX cars did this too, just with silver vinyl stripes of course. Both the red metallic car the OP posted, and even that ktthecarguy posted do NOT have that stripe. That later one has stock Iroc pinstripes, but in my opinion, it doesn't do the gold GFX justice. They really need that factorystripe.

Brown is a Nice color!

 

They all look great. However, I'd say the red and gold is the riskiest. If you get it to look factory, great! If not, it'll evoke crimson and gold college teams. It's a fine line.

Brown and gold is beautiful and those strange 80's tone on tone color schemes are coming back.

Black and gold is classic and will have the broadest appeal at resale. It's also my pick of your three options.

 

Im with Abubaca. White, black or brown with the gold trim looks killer. White looks super clean. Black looks mean. And brown looks very 80’s (in a good way). Depends on how you imagine your car! Cant go wrong with any color you choose as long as you do everything else right!

 

My preference black and gold, like said above it is a classic look.

 

The brown color is REALLY Nice, I Think it could be my first choice, even if my gf h te this color lol! it fit perfectly with gold and look vintage! Do you Know the exact color code or the pictures car? Is it dark brown ? Copper??

 

I don't know the color code, but you could probably dig it up with a little searching. ...if it's not a restoration though, just pick whatever you like and don't worry about the code.

I've ALWAYS wanted to build a brown thirdgen. No gfx (just me) cowl hood, white letter tires, etc. etc. ....just very old school looking. I don't know if it'd be more of a copper/orange brown, or a tan beige kinda brown.

Nobody likes the idea of brown, but when ya see it on an actual car, it's almost always a hit.

Take these codes to any paint shop, they should be able to match it no problem.

Thanks Abubaca, took me a while to find a good one. Finding one that was originally black and gold was even harder but love the classic color combo.

That dark red is sexy!!! But with gray interior WA8587 Bright blue! Blue/Gold like UCLA just a thought.

 

I still think the black and gold is the way to go in my opinion
