Hey guys so recently i was wondering if i should vinyl my dash? i was going to re vinyl my dash and my console lid. I would like to do this for two reasons. One- I wont have to worry about my dash cracking. Two- My dash is cracked and dont wanna spend the 500 for a fresh one :P Three- It jus looks super clean and unique. What are your guys thoughts and if anyone knows someone really good i could ship these too that would be awsome! Want it done perfect. I want to make my car a show car. Thanks again guys!
Any alternative to $500 would be good right.. I saw one done recently the guy had put filler in the cracks and plasti-dipped the dash and it didn't look too bad. Out of 5 third-gens ive had my current car is the only one I haven't had to change the dash out of yet..
The way you are wording your initial post is a little confusing to me. The vehicle you posted has what appears to be a stock dash pad that has been upholstered, like the new Mustangs dash pad for instance. It's a two piece leather (or leatherette or marine vinyl) with the seam (French seam) along the front edge. Center console lid is similar. Any upholstery shop can do this but the cost will vary wildly. Automotive upholstery shop will be the most expensive and person working a side job by word of mouth on facebook/craigslist will be the least expensive.
The way to do it is to grind down the cracks to flush and fill in the voids with a spray foam and then remove the excess. Then glue down some 1/8" foam onto the dash pad. Glue the new new cover in place. I've had good luck reupholstering the stuff in our cars and will be trying the dash with my old cracked dash I have left over.
