It has been nearly 5 Years since I owned my first thirdgen. I have came along way since then. Owned quite a bit of rare parts, Built/rebuilt a lot of fun stuff, and have had many long, cold winter nights in my garage. But there is nothing like the first one. That car is long dead, and gone. Its a coke can somewhere. But about a month ago I ran across a car very similar to the one I owned. A 85, Maroon, WS6 Trans am. This one has gray Interior (the most boring out of them all), No power mirrors, no power seat, and the paint is crazy faded. But for the price I paid, I am totally stoked. I am going to part my 83 daytona. Its way to far gone. But this is a fitting replacement. Now, If anyone wants to hook me up with a reasonably priced full black interior. Hit me up lol.

 

 

 

 

 

Have you rebuilt it already or is that a picture of your old car at the end?

Looks clean underneath and those 2-tone grey interiors are sweet when in good condition.

Thats an awesome story! I did the exact same thing as you did with the car in my sig. Same down to the options. Nothing beats the first one. Hope everything goes well for you rebuilding your car and I bet you own this one for a very long time!

 

Yeah mang, watchyermouth, that's TWO TONE gray! Had the same interior in my 86 T/A. Rather have Graphite and Gray than red, or blue, or tan...

 

man, you give me like 100 bucks you can have the whole interior. I hate the gray.

 

Put some work Into the car. Pulled/Tossed the interior. Short and sweet. There is T-top Rust, one very minor spot on the Floor, and there is a trap door. The trap door is the best I have ever seen in person. Someone really cared about doing something so wrong, right. If that makes any sense at all. I bolted up some black 82/83 Recaros for show/the car needed seats. Rebuilt the dash with a new pad, UQ7 switch, Steering wheel (just like OEM but not mushy), OEM speakers, working UT4 radio w/ The rare Performance sound radio bezel. I removed like 5 LBS of wires from old systems and other random stuff. This car had a nest in the vents. Very contained. Went in through a fender vent and under the kick panels on the passenger side. Think I got it all. There was a lot. also Replaced the broken power antenna with a back up spare I had in the basement. The center console was on its last legs so I reglued the vinyl to the plastic, and slapped on my spare shift plate from my 86. Overall for just doing what I can with what I had in the stockpile I made a lot of progress with this one. It has a Very Rare early firebird dash pad with the lines in there. willing to trade.

 

The car was actually really highly optioned. Dude did not know what he had. Heck neither did I. Bought this one over the phone. Had the RPO sheet still attached to the center console. only options missing were Power seat, Power mirrors,UQ7 system, and Recaros. Ya. That switch is just there to be there. looks Good though. Anyways, this car even had the wrap around wing from the factory plus the hotter cam that redlines at 6k! Way more response than my 86 had stock. You don't see cars from 85 with these options too often. In 86 the Wing was std plus had the smallest cam that year IIRC.

 

Looks like it was in great shape for an IL salt car. He obviously didn't drive it much during our non-construction season. Nice find!

 

The car is from Indiana. I think it was parked next to a lake or something because it had like that green algae on it.
