I’m not sure that’s actually an IROC...I also think a 4-owner car that has a replacement engine, but claimed to have under 100,000 miles to be.....unlikely.

It's not an IROC, it's a Z-28 with the wrong style IROC door letters and no fog lights

Re: Oh yes! '86 IROC, $10K!

And a base Sport Coupe/RS steering wheel, the wrong color accents, etc. Gold wheels should have Gold accents and decals. Silver decals should have Silver accents and Silver wheels. If it were an 86 Iroc it'd have 16" wheels, and fog lights.

It'd be easy enough to fix or fake if a person could pick a direction. Just a matter of fixing the details. The big thing, the paint, looks decent, it could be built on.

I noticed those, too. One of the reasons I specifically looked for an L98 Camaro was to avoid exactly that. The prices have gone way up recently, but that’s not an excuse for a seller to commit outright fraud.

Besides, I didn’t pay anywhere near 10k for mine, and it was good enough to have given me nearly 40,000 miles of great service and fun over the past 30 months.

I still haven’t corrected the stripes, or the Z/28 callouts on the side ground effects , which are incorrect for ‘88, but I sort of like it the way it is.

Re: Oh yes! '86 IROC, $10K!

To be fair, the seller never claims the car is an Iroc. It's listed as a Z28.

If a person wanted to they could paint the GFX and remove the decals and be back to a proper Z28 look, or change the wheels and put fogs on it and it'd look the part of an Iroc (mostly). While I personally think people should love thirdgens for what they are, I don't have a real problem with dolling up a lesser car for PERSONAL USE.

My current project is a V6 Firebird body, and when it's done it'll really look the part of a Formula. I just don't like the idea of hacking up my Formula, or jumping into body and paint work on my Formula, without experience. While if I totally hork up the 6cyl, who cares? The VIN is always going to say it's a 3.1L, so obviously I'm not looking to trick anyone into paying the "Big Bucks".

Fortunately, most people don't accurately clone a RS or Z28 into an Iroc very often. Usually you'll see the decals, or maybe the GFX painted body color, or a hood, but you usually don't see cars that have been cloned well enough that you can't pick them out easily.

Isn't that the truth.
Good for me as 3rd gen owner. Tough when I'm a 3rd gen buyer.
Which I am.
Both.
EDIT. FWIW: My guess is that the average 3rd gen buyer will be looking for nostalgia rather than historical accuracy. Anything that fits the buyers memory of his high school car will serve the purchase in a lot of resale.
Of course there's the collector buyer but for the most part I'm guessing the former.
Or am I missing the mark here? (And not necessarily this ad but this kind of ad in general).

I agree. Once in the 5K range, people will bite.
