Fuel tank pressure

I have a 1991 Pontiac Firebird GTA. After 30 minutes of driving at regular summer temperatures, when I stop at a light or intersection my car idles way down to around 300 - 400 rpms and almost stalls. It is a 305. 5.0L fuel injected engine. If I pop it in neutral it will rev back up to normal. When I got home I released the fuel cap and a gush of pressure released, enough for the cap to pop out into my hand. Anyone out there in the bird world have any info on this?
thanks

Re: Dual rad fan issues

Are they turning on when warm 226f ?
There is a speed cut off for the fans above 35mph if I recall.
If the ecm controls the relay with the ecm in field service mode you might have a bad ecm. Just a guess.

I'm not sure what the temp would be, seems strange driving for 30 minutes and don't hear them.
speed cut off above 35 mph? So at 70 on the Hiway they won't run?

Re: Dual rad fan issues

The fan is only necessary when the car is stopped. The rest of the time, the airdam under the radiator support pushes air through the radiator, no need for a fan when the car is moving.

Re: Dual rad fan issues

following the attached schematic, there is no speed cut off for the secondary fan.

Re: Dual rad fan issues

Research here on normal fan operation. Is it just working normally? There are temp sensors that can go bad. Seems fan motors are ok.

i took it out out for a drive the other day for about 30-40 minutes and it was 28 degrees Celsius outside. When I returned home I left it running in the driveway for another 15 minutes and the fans didn’t activate.
not sure what’s going on there.

Re: Dual rad fan issues

So is the car overheating or not? Scratching my head wondering what actual problem you're trying to solve.

FWIW - I can't hear my fans when they run but my car is kind of loud.

sorry, the car is not overheating. The fans didn’t seem to be coming on but I guess the engine just wasn’t getting hot enough. I stopped in my driveway today after coming back from a drive and let it idle until the fans kicked in.
seems to be working fine now, yay!!!
thanks everyone for your interest in helping though.
