I'd imagine that VATS is turned off on all of these Hypertech chips?

 

Vats is enabled but if someone wants I can reprogram it and disable it .

 

I always wondered how that works on an aftermarket chip? Aren't there several VATS programs from the factory which work only with your particular ECM?

For example, I tried using the factory chip from one of my '89s in another '89 and VATS would let it start.

 

The vats is just a check box flag in the programming. Same frequency expected bye the ecm.
Some 88s had vats and the memcals would interchange with a 89. There are differences such as 9th injector and ac fan switch type. I don’t know why your memcal didn’t work as long as they were both the 165 ecm it should of worked.
