Rear Seat Strike Bolt

I loosened the strike bolts behind the rear seat, because I thought they needed to come off to remove the plastic trim. That wasn’t necessary. The bolts were wobbly when I loosened them. When I retightened them, one of the strike bolts acted like I stripped the threads. I was trying to tighten to 30 lbs/ft with a torque wrench. It gave, got loose, retightened, gave again with a thud, retightened, etc.. Now I think I may have broke off a welded bolt. Any advice? Is the bolt accessible through the rear tire well?

It's a captured square nut. The stamped steel piece around the nut keeps it from spinning. You could try sliding it up or down to reposition it in the stamped riser. You might just get lucky.

I would pull the screw out first and see if the threads are screwed up first.

Re: Rear Seat Strike Bolt

After some work, I got access to the rear bolt. Strike bolt is now secured properly.
