92 camaro starter
Ok today I went to start my 92 z28 camaro with 5.7L tpi and it made a grinding noise. I went looking and found that my starter housing cracked. Went searching found that this is a problem due to the way mounting holes are designed. What I'd like to know is what would be a better starter to use?

Re: 92 camaro starter
I used one from a '96 corvette. its a gear reduction type and works very well. I did have to install a new longer cable from the battery to the starter but that was only a minor inconvenience.

Re: 92 camaro starter
looks like it would work fine
but there's a tangible benefit right there to picking up a stock replacement gear reduction starter (either Fbody or Ybody) from the parts store around the corner. it comes with a lifetime warranty and if it doesn't fit (for whatever low probability reason-like maybe wrong part in right box) you just take it back next time you're nearby.
order something that has to be shipped, even if from a reputable setup and you lose that quick, turnaround over-the-counter experience (or opportunity).
besides, looks like you'll find the later Fbody starter to be essentially that same type.
