Starter

Hello, I think I have a starter problem. Is there such a thing as starter lag? 86 IROC- , it was turning over really slow so I got a new battery. Same thing... The starter is omc, the starter does make a whineing sound right after you let go of the key, after the engine starts. Could the starter be shot?

Thanks for any suggestions!

sounds like the starter needs a shim. I would take it off and get it tested just to be safe, don't want it to strand you. The whining noise after you let off when it starts is due to the flywheel/flexplate and the starter gear meshing too tightly, which is corrected with a shim.
