I'm delaying the poll on purpose.

 

 

I assume waiting for the nominees to get their writeups and additional pictures in.

 

This 1989 Firebird was purchased in November of 2018. It is the second Firebird I have bought on Thanksgiving. I have had four Pontiacs in my life. Always wound up selling them for financial reasons. Bummer but that's life. This Firebird has completed four Hot Rod Power Tours, with the previous owner. The last one was in 2017. She is not stock under the hood as you can see, however most of the interior and exterior is. It has 49 k original miles. A little more than some of the others nominated I see. In the year and a half that I have owned her, she has gotten many new parts and upgrades. Long hours in the garage and loving every minute of it. This car is a fighter and wants blood, sweat, and tears before she will cooperate. In 2019 I took her to the Indian Uprising, all Pontiac car show. It was a three day event that ended in us winning an award. She is not a daily driver and never has been. I enjoy taking her for rides around town and cruise nights. Trying to pass down the passion for cars to my daughter. At the moment, not working out so well. Thank you for the nomination. I'm not expecting to win but i can see the appreciation all the nominees have for the third gen cars. Nice to know there's others like me. All the cars nominated are just awesome. I'm going to reuse some of my old information. I hope no one holds that against me.

I wish I could tell a great story of how I saved this car from the crusher and totally dismantled the car and had it blasted and replaced every nut and bolt and about the blood, sweat and tears etc.... Those are great stories and I have the upmost respect for those journeys, because they are journeys for sure. But this is not that kind of story.

I purchased this 1989 Iroc-z Camaro (5.7, automatic) from the original owner in Topeka, Kansas. He had kept the car mostly original for 30 years. I purchased the car as soon as I saw the unusual color combination of bright blue metallic paint with the gold trim and beechwood tan interior. I have never seen one in this color combination before, other than in a few pictures. I say that it is mostly original because I am sure it has some things like the battery that are not original. It is very original in the fact that it has most of its original parts including the original tires and wheels. I have removed the original tires and wheels and stored them and replaced them with new 17 inch replicas and new Goodyear tires just so I can actually drive it. I have some documentation like build sheets, window sticker, purchase agreement, financing agreement, protection plan agreement, odometer statement, and a copy of the previous title. The car was purchased new at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet and still has the dealership decal on the rear spoiler. I wanted to remove it, but the older I get the more I appreciate originality, and I really like how original this car is. I have a lot of respect for the original owner who had the restraint not to modify this car for 30 years. When I was younger, I always wanted to make a car "mine" and changed out radios, speakers, wheels etc. as soon as I could. I bought a new Camaro in 1989 and stopped at a shop and had the windows tinted on the way home from the dealership. So really, the credit for the condition of this car has to go to the original owner. I am just thrilled to be able to enjoy it, drive it to shows and continue it's stewardship. I'm planning to keep it original and drive it to shows and cruise nights.

Neighborhood car show

 

This is my 1986 Iroc-z. I purchased it in 1993. I am the third owner. It was the very first iroc I ever saw. The original owner worked at a Vet I drove past everyday to school in my 68 Camaro. Being a 16 year old boy I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. The original owner sold it to my high school typing teacher. They would get it out a couple time a year but not much at all. Fast forward to 1993 I was on the look out for my second Camaro and new it would be an iroc. I stopped and looked at it not knowing it was the Iroc I first fell in love with. I really was looking for a yellow 1986 iroc so I didn't get it, 6 months past as I was looking for a yellow one. then I found out it was in deed my first iroc I fell in love with. Well needless to say I went back and purchase the car and have had it ever since. Then in 2000 I had a baby girl the days was born I gave here the car to get her interested in cars and have something in common since I still have my 68. the only catch is she doesn't get it now but des get to drive it once in awhile.

I know that the drivetrain is different now, but just an observation. 17 city/25 highway with that 350 was really pretty good.

 

I like this style... It’s about the car show! Especially since we can’t go to any now, the least we can do is check out other people’s stories!

I Actually found someone that modified the center panel for me. I just had to wire in the lights on the backside

I can't remember, do any of the tail lights have a colored sleeve over the bulb to create the darker red color?

 

No they dont. The tail lights just have regular 1157/194 type clear bulbs. The center lights are red LED and white for reverse. The seller on Ebay supplies them with the panel modification..
