Hesitating, surging, and bucking.

Hey guys, i think im having a torque converter problem just not sure. Got a 92 305 tbi with 700r4.

Poor gas milage for starters. But has bad hesitation during acceleration. It gets a little better higher in the rpm range but not much. Revs up fine in park and has great response. When I'm up to speed I have some slight surging. Nothing major but its noticable.

Occasionally on deceleration and under 1/4 throttle, I get some bucking. Sometimes its bad other times it's just a little. If i let off it goes away.

If im at cruising speed and hold the gas and brake at the same time, the rpms jump a little. From what I've read Im assuming that is the torque converter unlocking? So I think the lockup switch? Is working correct but thats about the extent of my knowledge.

any insite would be helpful.

Thanks.

Re: Hesitating, surging, and bucking.

I checked and it gives me a code 44.

I originally thought it could be the map sensor or maybe even the 02. But then I got told it sounds like a torque converter issue so here I am lol

Re: Hesitating, surging, and bucking.

My 88 V6 5-speed had bucking bronco syndrome.

Replaced the MAF, and it helped a lot.
But still bucked some.

Replaced the ECM.
No bucking since.

Re: Hesitating, surging, and bucking.

Thanks Tootie.

I'll have to pick a battery up for my multimeter.

To rule out the map sensor I put my jumper in the a/b ports while the car was running and according to the cel flashes its running rich(on more than off). If i unplug the map sensor it stays rich and starts to idle rough. I think it might be the 02 or ecm at this point according to the chart.

I'll check back once I test the 02 sensor
