Car: 1989 Iroc-Z Convertible
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 2.73:1
Hotter Converter, Low Budget, Stock 305 TPI
I have what I am pretty certain is a torque converter vibration, comes on at about 1700-1800 Rpm regardless of gear, and is worse when running in gear as opposed to in neutral spinning.
I want to put a higher stall in the car anyway, so now is the time. Right now it's bone stock, except for 1.6 ratio roller tip rockers. I might do other bolt on mods, maybe some porting on the TPI, but nothing major.
Whats a good recommendation for a higher stall converter to get a little more kick off the line, and not break the bank?
It's a 1989 with a 2.73 rear.
Want something new, with lockup.

I bought one for a 99 or so 4.3 S10. Gave my car around 2300 stall. Just right for a street car IMO. I think it was around $140 for the converter.

Don't waste your money on that B&M. Performance will be the same as with the S-10 converter and quality maybe worse.

Thanks guys. I think I will go with the S10 converter. Sounds like the ticket. Thanks for the advice.

Cant find that part number. 1998 and 1999 S10 with the 4.3 on RockAuto shows this converter, is it right?

Daaco is what I used. For a 4l60 or 700r4 30 spline May have been a mid 90s S10 converter I just can't remember right off

So, that is in fact not the right converter.
For anyone else looking at this thread, right now the only place I could find the proper converter listed on RockAuto (which is in fact a B29-DCLF) was for a 96-97 GMC Jimmy 4.3. All of the B29 converters listed for the S10 trucks have the "L" stall code which is 1600-1650, same as the stock IROC converter.
Luckily, I caught it before I put any fluid in the new converter or installed it, and the return only cost me $9. The B29 is about $10 cheaper so it all washed out.
The B85 also has a different length pilot shaft slot / snout. From what I have read, the B85 were for later 4L60/4L65 with a bolt on bellhousing, usually behind an LS 5.7.
The second letter is the stall code. B and C are the 2000+ codes, L (as in B85-TLCX) is 1650, and is in the same class as what my stock converter was labeled as (E, DE8F).
Trans is out of the car, no rush to get it back in since I don't drive on the roads when they're salty.

I used a torque convertor from a 1985 Corvette in my 1989 GTA 5.7L which had a 500 rpm higher stall speed. Back then, just ordered through GM Parts.

Yeah, the corvette used the B or C stall as well. This should be in the same ballpark. I'll update once it's installed and I test drive it. Which wont be for a while
