I’m a new member of this group and was looking for some help. A little background. I have done quite a bit of work on cars but I haven’t messed with this vintage in a long time. Helping a teenager with his first car. The four-speed manual in his car is nearly impossible to get into reverse. I did my best to clean and check the adjustment on the shifter rods and they seem fine. I can manually pull the reverse rod and get it in reverse and it’s fine. The shifter depresses but can’t seem to engage reverse. 1-4 work fine. Can’t seem to find an aftermarket shifter to work on this car with the console. Can’t find any information on rebuilding the factory shifter. Generally speaking it’s really frustrating. Please help. Thanks Craig

Which transmission? T-10 or Saginaw?

T-10 has R up and to the left. Saggy is somewhere else.
T-10 case is aluminum, Saggy is iron.
T-10 R shifter shaft goes into the extension housing, Saggy it goes into the case.

Generally speaking however, there's no "rebuild" for a factory shifter. It consists of yanking it out and putting in a Hurst. Which AFAIK hasn't been available for these cars for the better part of 20 yrs now.
