Hello everyone. I have a 1989 pontiac firebird trans am gta convertible. I've recently purchased the stock shifter assembly and neutral safety switch wiring harness to undo the previous owner hack job. Wiring harness was chopped off before ashtray and they installed a b&m shifter but it wasn't wired correctly and im getting alot of electrical gremlins. My power windows and mirrors dont work but the harnesses are getting power. The hatch release switch is not working. Not sure what it's supposed to do on a convertible but neither the trunk not the tonneau are releasing. Not even a relay click is audible. Im hoping installing the removed harness back might solve some of those woes but there's a certain bundle towards the rear I cannot identify. This rear bundle has 2 black wires. 1 orange. 1 gray and a brown or tan wire with a white stripe that has a peculiar connector. I did my best to identify the rest of the bundles. Any help would be appreciated. My chilton manual makes them a little difficult to decode.
I am looking for my copy of the 1989 Firebird Schematics...
But off of the top of my head:
-The Tan w/ White Tracer went to the Parking Brake Lever, to light up an indicator that says: "Brake" on the Dashboard.
-One Black and One Grey go together to a light bulb socket to illuminate the center console... Gear Selector Indicator, or a switch on the console.
-The Orange wire is the power accessory circuit... and it could be the power for a Power Mirror Switch; in which case the Black would be the ground for the switch...
Or it could be another power accessory, like power and ground going to the Power Hatch Release Switch...
Let us know what you find when you look at the car again.
Otherwise @John in RI sell used wiring harnesses... he may have an idea of what the wiring in your car would have looked like originally.

The 1989 specific ones are towards the bottom of the page but I think they have most of what you need shown somewhere in there. I saw the trunk for sure.
The tan/white wire goes to a connector for the parking brake lever. The orange and black wires go to a connector for the console compartment light. The gray and black wires go to a socker w/bulb for the gear selector indicators (for mine, it's a 74 socket for the manual gear shift pattern, not sure what type of bulb/socket for an automatic).

omg thank you soo much. This made wiring really easy. I was able to get it working. I have my power windows and mirrors working again. Brake light for the dash still isn't working but I've noticed quite a few burned out bulbs and my fuel gauge not working even after a new fuel sender. Will take the cluster out in a few weeks to do a proper clean and testing.
Im working on a 95 camero v8 automatic the wire harness for the engine was butchered and rigged up so I came across an other camero at pick n pull and took the harness off that one to swap it over to the camero im fixing as im comparing the two the new harness is missing the transmission plug because I guess it was a manuel transmission so what im trying to do is add the transmission plug wire over 2 the harness of the manual harness I unpinned the plug and repinned it but there were some places we're the wire slot was already occupied by the a wire already I dnt know what to do from here so if anybody with the knowledge to bless me with the proper steps to complete this task switching a automatic plug to a manual harness for the automatic car of the 95 camero v8 lt1

ThirdGen.org is for ThirdGen (1982-1992) F-Body (Camaro and Firebird) only.
LS1Tech.com is an active site that includes 4th Gen content, which your 1995 Camaro would be, so you should try them for your questions.
What the EFFFFFFFFFFING HAIL is THAT? There's badges on the side of the car; can't you READ?
95
Clearly not a 3rd gen 82-92 CamAro or Firebird. You need a 4th gen forum. Not sure whether there is one butt you're obviously MUCH smarter than I am since you can READ the badge on the side of your car and type it in correctly on the Interwebz. Good luck.
