T56 Magnum or TR6060 with L98
I'm trying to figure out what I might need for a swap in my '89 Iroc with the 700R4 and L98, and while I've found a million threads for the swap with an LS or old school small block, I can't find any information for doing it with the factory L98.
For parts, I see that I'll need the transmission, the clutch, pedals, crossmember, and a custom driveshaft. And I think a digital gauge cluster or else the speedometer won't work. The car has hydroboost instead of the normal booster, not sure if a swap is needed with that, and I don't know what kind of adapter may be needed to bolt up the transmission to the L98. Nor do I know what the situation is with the splines or flywheel. And by extension the starter. And what else I haven't even considered.

I don't get the Hydroboost swap on 3rd gens. Problems.
A T56 from another chevy will bolt to the L98, no prob...the L98 IS an "old skool small block". Get a T56 with the right shifter location. Hydroboost doesn't matter and has nothing to do with the transmission. You don't need a custom drive shaft, your current one will work. Get a flywheel and clutch for a 90's LT1 T56 Camaro application. You can make the speedo work with an adaptor/driver from Dakota Digital.

Well, I'm 3000 miles away from the car on vacation and don't have any photos of the setup. It looks like the attached photo, though.

I appreciate it, I wasn't sure if the L98 had a different bolt pattern or not from the carbureted 60's and 70's SBC's I was finding swap info for. Not sure what the right shifter location would be, if you don't have that information, I'm sure I could find it.
I do really like the pedal feel from the hydraulic booster setup, it's nice, and with the big brake kit, it works really well. Never had any issues with it. But I wouldn't say that it really is necessary for a street application, but I do think it's nice.

The parts required will depend on the t56 you use. If you get an old t56 from a complete LT1 its pretty easy. The issue is finding all the parts and you'd be getting a trans from the mid 90s. If you go buy a new magnum f t56 your get a new much better trans. The inside is basically a tr6060. I installed mine into my 82 w a small block. It was easy to do but required more parts. That said, its all new parts and rips.

Following as I'm debating on T56 Magnum F swap as well. Anyone go with the Hawks kit? https://www.hawksmotorsports.com/82-...ny-sbc-or-bbc/

Those kislys are pretty complete. Id look into the driveshaft yoke. Its likely a 1350 and you'll need a conversion joint and or a new shaft. The hawks kits are on the pricey side but complete. I have the close ratio w 4.11s and its awesome. Depending on your rear ratio and engine setup you may want different ratios. Id look into the capacity of the clutch depending on the power you make.
