How about a drag race/gathering for Houston
I live in Katy and went to the last gathering in Houston at Sonic on 1960. I know there are a lot of thirdgens in Houston. A friend of my fatherinlaw was telling me he sometimes rents a drag strip in Sealy called Raceway Park. It costs about $500 for about 4 hours. Ive been out to Lonestar Raceway in Sealy but its only 1/8 mile. Its fun and costs me $15 to get in and race in Test and tune. You can get about 4 or 5 runs in in a night. If we got a group together we could rent this strip and it would be cheap. Shoot, 10 guy is only $50 each and we could probably get 10 or 15 runs in or more. Maybe a few more cars even would be good, I think we had 12 or 15 cars at that gathering. That would be a managealbe number. I think it would have to be not on a Fri or Sat night, which could be a problem, but in the summer would be ok maybe. I'll find out about the specifics.
Who would be interested. We could have a combination gathering/drag meet out there. It would be great.

I just started in on the repainting process of my car today. I got a few GFX off and a lot of the interior out. My goal is to have it together by May 30. I turn 16, and get out of school on the same day!(May 30)

that would deffinitely rule, and if the cost was down and there were a bunch of people, I would deffinitely go.
Isn't Raceway Park a half mile track also? Dirt?
1/8th mile sux, but I guess its better than nothing

Lonestar Raceway in Sealy is where I have been but I have been told about this Raceway Park in Sealy. I know Lonestar Raceway and I just recieved a newsletter for there because I have raced there several times. It says they rent the track for $350/4 hours plus EMTs (whatever that is??). That is the 1/8 mile track and it is very nice, professional tree, time slips etc. The Raceway park my friend told me about is supposedly in Sealy also and is 1/4 mile and $500 for 4 hours. You may be thinking of Houston Raceway Park in Baytown where they have a 1/4 mile drag strip and a 3/8 mile oval dirt track. I havent' been there but I plan to. That is where they just had the Spring Nationals a few weeks ago, I think that would be pretty expensive. I will investegate this supposed Raceway park in Sealy.
Yeah I've been to Lonestar a few years ago. That was my first time drag racing. Cool place. Houston Raceway Park in Baytwon is really nice, but renting the track would be very costly. On friday nights they have test and tune night, 15 bucks race all night.

Yeah Lonestar was my first time a few weeks ago too. Its good if you are in experienced, low pressure you know. Im an old hand now with a total of 6 runs in my whole life, haha. I would like to try the 1/4 mi at Houston Raceway park soon, want to make a few more mods first. Ran a 9.06 1/8 with a 2.09 60' time last week at Lonestar. Pretty happy for now but need more speed!!!.

I think Lonestar would be good for a gathering on say a Thursday. Some could race and others watch, its very casual. We could look at others cars etc. Racing people could pay maybe $20 or $30 and watchers could pay maybe $5. If we had may 10 or 12 racers and the rest watchers that would be the $350. We could have two classes, 305 and 350. I think it would be a blast. You can take coolers there with food and beer. What could be better than beer, drag racing and a car show?

a 9.06? Nice! Is your car stock? My formula only grabbed 9.35's out there. My best now that I have done quite a few mods is a 8.9 over at baytown.
I think this sounds like a great idea. The first time I did it I had a blast and only 4 thirdgens were there. I'm sure we could get a larger show than that if we plan it out.

Pretty much stock. I had a JEt airfoil (whoopdeedoo) and open K &N filter element the first time i ran. I just put in new NGK plugs, a MSD Blaster HEI coil, MSD distributor cap and rotor, and MSD 8mm wires and set the timing. Also put in a Ed Wright Fastchip, the standard one for 350 tpi. I ran like 9.3 to 9.4 the first time at abouyt 74mph. The second time I ran 9.2 to the 9.06 at about 76.5 mph, so it made quite a difference. I want to get some slicks which I think would help a lot. We should get together. Im would like to get my car a bit faster.

Lets Race and show
OK, I made an official inquiry into renting the track at Lonestar Raceway in Sealy for either June 5 or 6th. Time would be 6 to 10pm or 7 to 11pm, which do youall think would be better. My idea is to get people committed to either race or show up and watch and show their car. Let say $25 to $30 to race, and $5 to watch and show. We would have only two classes, 305 and 350. The track provides personnel to start and give out timeslips and we organize the racing ((I think, im confirming this). Hopefully we could get at least 6 cars to race in each class, 12 cars at $25 is $300 and the track is $350. 10 cars to watch (thats probably not realistic to get that many) at $5 makes $50 and pays for the track. If we get more then the two class winners can split the extra money.
the only problem is, how do we collect the money. If I pay for the track and nobody shows up, I don't eat for two weeks. Would you guys be willing to sent the money to me or the track directly in advance? Im finding out when it has to be paid by.
I think this would be really fun if we could pull it off. I wish I was rich, Id rent the track and invite all you guys (no mustangs please, haha).
Let me know

hey like i said i am down i guess the best wat is for people to pay before? and maybe to the track , cause thats what i prefer that way i know for sure it will be done I will pay to race.
put me in the 305 class
how many people are interested ?

Before anyone says thats too much to race, remember the track is rented exclusively, and therefore you can make a lot of runs. Over in baytown at HRP you can pay 15 bucks on a friday night and get about 3-4 runs because its packed. For 25 you could get over double that or more over at Lonestar. The only problem is that its an 1/8 mile track.
I'd be down for showing, wouldn't race though. Unless my tranny is rebuilt by the time the day comes around (not likely)

Well it doesnt' like like there is really enough intereste to do this. Like I said, I can't rent the track by myself although I would like to and invite everyone. Ive only heard from a few guys. I still haven't heard back from the track on when you have to pay, etc

Even if your car is not completely like you want it's still fun to race it. Besides it gives you a baseline time to see how your mods affect performance. Also gives you practice with starts in terms of not spinning too much and reacting time with the starting lights. This would be a no pressure situation really with just a bunch of thirdgen buddies. I raced test and tune down there a few weeks ago and got paired up with a 6 second (1/8 mile) car. He pulled away from me so fast at the starting line I almost out of my car to see why my car stalled (haha) and I ended up running 9.06 in the 1/8 mile with a 2.06 60' time.

Too bad there isnt a class for us V6 guys. Cause I know myself and a few others might jump in the racing part of your lil idea. Or we can run w/ you 305's and 350's. Cause it wont matter unless you breakout of your ET. Unless you are planning the 1st one across the line wins???????

OK, we might try again for later in the summer, maybe mid July or so. I never did hear back from the track after they told me that they would have to look into whether it would cost more that the normal $350 for 4 hours because there would be more cars than just a few and that would require more track personnel. Anyway I would still like to do it if we can get enough cars. I was just thinking of first across the finish line to make it simple. I don't see why we couldn't have another class though if there are enough V6 cars. We can do anything we want, we just need to decide the best way. I think first across the line would be a lot simpler but I am open for ideas.

I am going to be in the Peruvian Jungle from around June 10 to the 24th. For me it will have to be after that. I know Im just one person but heck, Im the one trying to organize it. I think it will be hard to organize this because like I said, I will have to have financial help to pay for the track. A normal gathering you just set a date and if people show up, great, if not no big deal. If I pay for the track an no ones shows up, like I said, I don't eat for about two weeks. This may not be doable. Would you send money to the track directly, like 20 or 25$? Maybe we can do it that way. We have to agree on a date, and just do it I guess. I think it would be great fun, not just looking at the cars, but being able to race them (legally) too.

We cant rent the track on a Friday or a Saturday as they have scheduled events on those days. It would have to be June 27th, Thursday or July 1st Monday. I like July 1st.
