Subframe Kit installation....RAPE!!!!!!
I'm having a REAL problem trying to get the Southside Machine Works Subframe Kit installed and not geting reamed. I took it to a very credible shop (does EXCELLENT work) and got a price quote of $600.00!!!!!! And the guy had the nerve to tell me that it would be ONE HOUR of welding time. I wish I could weld. I'd do it all day for $600.00 an hour!!! Does anyone know of someone or somewhere I could take it and avoid some serious rectal damage?
Anywhere else but them.
I paid $50 (although my installer did a ****ty job....)
I'd say get someone who's done them before, at max pay $100.
Wanna know the easiest way though?
Take it to an exhaust shop with a drive on lift, and drive it up on there.
Then (I took pictures from the Spohn website) show them where the SFC's are going to go, and point out underneath the car. It's an extremely easy job, the guy who did mine just sucked at welding (not the exhaust shop). They shouldn't charget you very much.

omg 600
for that you could rent a welder and buy some scrap steel and learn to do it yourself
man that guy sucks
i dont know how old you are, or if your still in highschool... but you could try talking to the auto shop teacher and asking them to weld them on for you. the auto shop at my old highschool was always doing that... but if you dont know anyone there i can see it being awkward.
otherwise do like what overclock said. bout the best i can come up with

This kit is more involved than just the frame-to-frame connectors. It costs $450.00. It has a cross piece, and 2 "lift bars" that weld to the rear axle. In fact they tell you to remove the rear sway bar and the torque arm. They are no longer necessary. But still, 600 is idiotic.
P.S. My high school shop teacher is probably in a wheelchair drooling on himself. I'm 50.

question
Not to steal the thread... but is there any prep involved to keep the labor cost down? (removing GFX or carpet/padding removal). I plan to get SFC's installed soon also.

Yeah. That included me taking out the back seats!!!! Did that. That crosspiece welds to the pan right under the back seat. I was born at night...........but not last night. 600.00 for ONE HOUR of stick time in INSANE.

Here are some photos: The actual subframes are to the right. The rest of the stuff could be a problem. Some muffler-hanger is NOT going to be able to figure it out. I just went to Summit's websight, and it appears as though they no longer carry this kit.

Barry, I recommed a shop in Crosby Texas called FMG exhaust. They've never done me (or anybody else I know) wrong. The place does full race headers custom if the customer wants 'em - or just bolt up muffler installs. All the techs there are knowledgable and I'd trust 'em with my GTA.
They're located on FM 2100 which is a branch off of 1960 East. If you can't find any contact info - I'll call home and see what I can do for you.

Found a great guy out in East Bernard (boonies) who was willing to do it for cheap cheap....200.00. Took the car and all the parts out there. Without a lift, we couldn't get the car up in the air high enough. He's going to get a lift in about a month. This guy REALLY know what he's doing. Has an 81 badazz Camaro that he ran at Sealy CONSISTANTLY 6.0's. His advice was ABSOLUTLEY DO NOT take it to a muffler shop. "Those guys know how to weld mufflers". I thought it was good advice, so I'm gonna take it. And keep looking.
