Engine Swap ??'s. Please Help

I have been calling around local Salvage Yards, In search of an L98 to replace my LB9. My plans were to find an L98, Rebuild it w/ Vortech heads and the SDPC intake, and be set to go. I cant find not one L98. But what I did find opened an idea in my mind. Can I not buy a 5.3L or 5.7L Vortec Engine out of a newer model Chevrolet truck and put the SDPC intake and TPI on top and be set? Let me know if this has/can be done. If so, what things would I need to change....(mounts, wiring, computer....etc.)

I don't see why not. The Vortec 5.7L already has the vortec heads...just get the Vortec TPI bottom, and a used TPI wiring harness, runners and plenum and it should work.
The 5.3L is an LS-type engine. That's a totally different can of beans there. I think your best bet would be the Vortec 5.7.
You can prob get a decent vortec 350 outta a late 90's Chevy truck for not too much. Good luck on the swap!

actually the 5.3 /5.7 out of a newer chevy truck has the ls1 style coil pack with no distributor so you would have to convert to make it work. the heads and intake you want to use would not come anywhere close to fitting. i think 99 and up started using this design

The Vortec 5.0's and 5.7's in the Chevy trucks used the traditional distributor setup. When they replaced the 5.0/5.7 with the 4.8/5.3/6.0 Vortecs they went with the coil-near plug setup. I think his best bet would be the Vortec 350.

If you're sure it's the 350 then I'd say go for it. It's easy to tell the difference between the old style 5.7 and the newer 5.3's etc. If the engine you're referring to has a distributor then it's the old style. If it's a 350 and not a 305, then go for it.

I'd do the LT1 swap, since those motors are getting so cheap. Call Ron @ 972-475-5656
