PITA; butt worth it.
After having the car up on jackstands for over two weeks, the header install project is DONE!
The most prolonged project I've done on a car in a long time, and being on jackstands in the driveway was no treat. But it's now done, and I just couldn't be happier with the results. Installed Hooker 2055's (with A.I.R.), and a new Magnaflow (car-sounds) cat. Hooked that up to the existing Borla cat-back. Did all with hand tools, other than a sawz-all to cut the old Y-pipe and a grinder to fit the A/C support bracket.
Finally dropped it off the jackstands this afternoon, and went for a TnT on Skyline Drive (Summer Bash?). Spotted a very clean white '87 Camaro in the park and pulled up. Met a guy named Roy that was down visiting from OK City. He's had his car a month, and never heard of TGO. Be assured a flyer was dealt out, and he may be back in the area for the Fall Brawl!
I complimented his clean ride, and he returned it saying my car sounded really good. Well, that was music to my ears, almost as good as the actual exhaust note. So I took off for Skyline, and my grin just got bigger. The car sounds great, but more importantly to me, it actually feels like it's breathing much, MUCH better. Like comparing dragonflys to dragons!
I really couldn't be happier at the moment, best mod I've made to this car. And yes it was, and still is, a PITA. I'm seriously debating whether I need A/C in this car, even here on the Gulf Coast. But like any big project, the satisfaction is well earned when the job is done. And I am SO glad it is done.
Next stop: A tune with 1bad91z

Gas mileage--U don't need no stinking gas mileage!
No seriously, whether it's an old style car or a new one--the key to making a skinny block Chevy run, is to make it breath!!! That's probably one of the biggest bangs for the buck U can do to a thirdgen! Congrats! It especially feels good when U know U did all the work yourself--doesn't it?
And I vote yes on keeping the AC! The older U get--it seems like the hotter it gets, but that's I'm just some old guy, bumping his gums (literally)!

Sweet! I've helped a friend with a set of headers on a 02 LS1 camaro and it too was a pita! I've noticed on the birds (camaros may be the same?) that GM made it very hard for these cars to breathe properly. I agree...more air in, more air out= a happier right foot. Not to mention a happier engine!
