Baton Rouge, LA. I have a 91 305 TBI.
Order of preference:
A low mile engine running 305
A low mile engine not running 305
A rebuildable that needs boring, I rather have a different engine. I don't want to put a lot of money in the 305.
The vehicle inspection around here is somewhat lenient. As long as all the parts are there, they don't have to work up to about 1994 or 95. So, I can switch out if need to. I was looking at a LT1, until I saw all that needed to be changed. But if all the parts were there to swap, I'd think about it.
I don't want to have to bore it - but of course may have to. Time to rebuild it without boring would be very little and I would'nt be running around dropping off and picking up parts and waiting on machine shops.
The engine in the car now runs great, but has 170,000+ miles on it and the rod bearings and oil pump have been changed about 20,000 miles ago. So, I'm riding on borrowed time.
I could do anything necessary to the engine as far as rebuilding goes, but I just don't have the time. I don't get paid to work on my vehicles and I have a 6 yr old and a 3 month old to spend time with. If the day went to 48 hrs it wouldn't be enough.
