Nifty 50's
I went last night and brought my 8 yr old boy. He spends his time looking at muscle cars on the internet trying to decide what he wants. Changes every minute. I told him I would buy one and have it ready when he get 17.
Then he asks me what happens to the Blazer and Firebird when I die? BOY DON'T RUSH ME!
But even though they don't let 1980 and above in you can get a good parking place up close so people can see the 3rd gens.
I brought my 78 Chevy Blazer and should have parked with the rest of them. I thought it would be just emaculate cars there, but there was plenty of rough hobby cars with different colors primer that people were still working on (and some like this people considered finished). The ole Blazer was better looking than a few and much more custom.
Anyway we enjoyed it. He wants to go back next weekend and park the Blazer in there. He said we have 6 days to have it ready. He is already thinking like we do.
I guess he'll be broke like the rest of us.
If you go look for an oversized 4x4 Blazer - that'll be me.

The Blazer was parked by the Starbucks. It wasn't in the show. Hopefully I can clean it up by Sat. Spent about two hours under it today with a commercial pressure washer.

A friend of mine wants me to go with him to this meet. Has a 1966 Nova. Considering it is a holiday weekend, will they meet as usual? If so, what is exact location of meet?

Re: Nifty 50's
Yes They always meet. Whether it be rain or shine to keep out the young kids from tearing up the parking lot and parking amongst the more classics.
Heres their website www.niftee50ees.com It has an address on where its at and then you can use google to locate it. But heres a quick reference. its located on Spring Cypress and Champions Forest Dr next to the Kroger. in the parking lot. its usually crowded On any given weekend but it might be a little dudley since it is a holiday weekend. but that still doesnt mean 200-300 cars wont show up.

Yeah tryed that last year and the old man that puts it on called the cops saying it was a noise violation, when the 68 or 69 camaro and the nova that park near the bank most of the time are just about as loud.

Cant help you there. If it is too loud they might kick you out. its a possibility. It it is open headers, I dont doubt it. Also the cops are already on location, They walk around patroling the place so nothing happens. they kicked out a corvette last week for being to loud also.

Well, it is their show so they can make the rules.
I don't like their rules so I don't go to their show.
There are plenty of other shows around that don't discriminate agianst my antique. Personally, I would like to find a 3rd gen friendly show that we could all go to on a regular basis.

That may be what they are trying to do, but they ARE putting on a show which excludes every car that this forum is based on.
If they think that my Bad to the Bone, V8, Hot Rod, Antique Camaro is not good enough for them, then as far as I'm concerned they are not good enough for me.
BTW, Sonymaster20, YOU don't offend me, but their policy does.

Re: Nifty 50's
There are year cut off points at various cruises and forums. I attend a couple meets a month. Last week was a monthly pre 64 meet at one of the bars in the heights, local car club but all pre 64 stuff has normally around 30 people turn up for the first sunday in every month.
Have had such a welcome with this crowd that I've been neglecting the camaro a bit and trying to finish my 1950.
Also I goto the League city and Chick fillet cruises quite a bit no rice burners at them cruises yet. The chick fillet cruise the classic cars are out numbered by the late model mustangs and corvettes.
Saturday I'm going to the Continental club as they have a Kustom Kar show and bands playing all night. Good if you like Rockabilly music.

Re: Nifty 50's
no its a racecar and i parked it on the otherside of the bank fired it up to back it down and shut it off soon as it was off the trailer. Isnt like people are over there and its rattling someone's ear drums. BTW if u go out there often then u know my buddy mike drives the green/white racing stripe blown/olds 442 he was told when the meets 1st began there he wasnt allowed to trailer his car up there an put it in the show. Dont belive me go ask him. The guy running is is a **** and thats the bottom line. As far as people that bring there classics up there, only reason worth going.

Re: Nifty 50's
I have been once, so I don't know about the **** yet. But then I didn't go to look at him.
I didn't know about the trailering rule. Or any rule other than the 1979 and below. It is probably in place to keep it street legal only - which lends itself more to the classics. There are reasons for that although I'd really like to see the trailered cars. I like the race cars just as much as the classics. I like old and new(er), trucks, 4x4s, and cars and motorcycles. ANd of course 3rd gens. I have a firebird but prefer camaros. And it would be REALLY nice if he would include a gun show too.
Hell, he might not let my Blazer in because it is a 4x4 Blazer, but I did see a 4x2 Blazer in there. There was nothing nice about it either.
I am not defending the man, I just like to look at the cars and talk to the owners. The ones I spoke to were real nice.
Think of it from an older persons perspective. I grew up with 67 and 68 camaros back when you could buy one used and running for $1000. I don't see our cars (3rd gens) as antique or classic. Not because of age, just because I grew up before they existed. They don't seem that old to me. It's perspective. To the younger crowd the 3rd gens do seem older. That man is most likely just trying to get a little nostalgia going for him to relive. He'd probably prefer to leave the 70's out also.
Doesn't mean he's not a **** though.
If you know of other meets in the area, please post up details as I like cars like I like women - all kinds. And I am new to the area so I don't have a clue.
Enough of this for now, I have to make my house more energy efficient today. $700+ electric bill last month!

Re: Nifty 50's
This same discussion came up at Otto's tonight. Where I repeated that I didn't go there (Nifty fifties) because they discriminate against our cars.
It is their meet and they have the right to make their own rules. But since their rules exclude all 3rd gen F-Bodies, I don't have any intention attending, publicizing or otherwise having anything to do with them. Further, I encourage all other 3rd gen enthusiasts to "boycott" their meet. Not that I expect them to notice, but there are plenty of other meets that don't discriminate against 3rd gens.
Zane's meet at the Race track on the north side...
Otto's' on the south west side (my regular)
Alex's near clear lake on the south east side.
Chick fillet at Bellaire and Buffalo (I gave not checked this one out yet because it is on the border of South Side)
I'm sure there are numerous other out here.
Why attend one where we are not welcome?

Re: Nifty 50's
It is 2920 and Hwy 45. Go west on 2920 from 45, take a right just before the Race Track fuel station and go into the big parking lot behind it. It is a UPS parking lot. There were 150+ cars that showed up last friday and there were all civil people. No ricers, a few "passed thru" but did not have the ballz to stop, that is good for their sake.
