New to the Forum & The Car
Hello All. We just joined the 3rd Gen club today. We bought a 1991 Z228 for my son. It is a little bit of a project and we will work on it and get it ready for when he turns 16 in April. It is a 305 TPI 5 speed car. Apparently it was a factory automatic car, but somewhere along the line it was converted to a T5.
I have been a Ford Mustang guy all my life. This is the first GM product I've ever owned. I'm going to have plenty of questions for you experts here!
The first questions I have are regarding the clutch. It feels like the clutch needs adjusted and I'm not sure what the procedure is for that. It does not feel like it is hydraulic as it is a very heavy pedal. I'm assuming it has a mechanical mechanism of some sore. Who knows how to adjust the clutch?
Plans for the car include:
Engine rebuild
Trans Rebuild
Interior freshen up
New Paint (eventually)
Currently it has headers and some kind of cat back on it. Sounds a bit like a flowmaster. It has a pretty good miss so we're going to give her a good tune up and make it run as well as possible before the tear down.
Other things wrong with it include the Tach. It doesn't read, but the needle does move occasionally. The door locks don't move all the way with the button to lock, but they will unlock. I'm sure there's a ton more!
Looking forward to getting her fixed up!

Re: New to the Forum & The Car
I just looked and it is a hydraulic clutch set up. I've never felt a hydraulic clutch with such a hard pedal. Maybe some adjustment or a system bleed will help out? It doesn't like to downshift into 2nd or 1st gear while moving. I can get down into 2nd by revving a little and catching it as it it comes down. That to me says the clutch isn't disengaging completely. Any suggestions?

Seeing as how someone swapped from an auto to a stick there is a good possibility it might be half-assed or not properly setup. I would definitley familiarize yourself with the search function on this site.
Heres what a quick search came up with. Not sure how helpful it is to you but might give some insight.

Also you may want to find some pictures to make sure everything is aligned properly with the linkage and what not.
Good luck and keep us informed.

I've done some searching and found some info on bleeding the system. By looking at the set up, it doesn't look to be out of whack or anything. I'll get it up un the jackstands and we'll get it figured out.
It will definitely need some work over the coming months! Thanks for the info!
