air dam is on.. hopefully that will keep the temp cooler on the way there and back tomorrow. It never over heated, but it was about 75% up, and I didn't like that

A reminder to all......
We encourage people to bring stuff to sale! A thread was started just for it, but it didn't really take off. Maybe nobody has stuff for sale? I dunno.
But we are down to just 7 days to go & I know of.....
1 person looking for SFCs....
I'm looking for both front Firebird fenders, without the vents behind the wheels.
Who's got what? Who wants what? Post up!!!!

1 extra tire no longer needed.....Sumitomo HTR+
Plenty of life left in this tire. Over 1/4" tread depth left.
$50obo
I can bring it to the Gathering if anybody wants or needs it.

ok, you all will be glad to know we are NOT going to be outside on the patio. We will have tables blocked off all together inside.
Also, i'm going to get some name badge stickers today so people can write their real name/screenname on them. I know it's a little dorky, but it sure helps when you are talking to people to know who you are dealing with.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
what a great day!
i'll get some pics up soon, but in the meantime let me thank stephen for helping put this together, robbie for printing out the name badges, and everybody else for coming and making it such a great day. the plans are already in the works for next years event, including some ways to beat the heat.
we ended up with at least 33 cars there, and lots of people, probably close to 80!
there were some great cars there, and really great people. it was everything I hoped for.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
It was very cool to put some faces with some names on here. Talks already started regarding next year & I'll be pushing more towards a little earlier in the year. Late enough to avoid rain & early enough to avoid the heat. It was 97 today, 104 heat index in Georgetown!
A local member as offered the possible use of his big place for next year. It sounded like a very option, until it was mentioned that at the restaurant we had the benefit of food, bathrooms, free refills on drinks, access to more food if it was wanted & plenty of AC seating or even outdoor shaded seating. After all that was mentioned, we just may stay with a restaurant gathering. I know I made several trips back inside for refills of tea. I know I caught several members taking a break inside to get out of the heat for a bit.
A big thanks goes out to Mark (58mark). He helped me out planning & a lot in making the phone calls & such to Dukes to work it all out with them.
The name badges were a pretty good idea too. Thanks Robbie! Not a bad idea to stick with that for any following years. Maybe next year we can do more than just eat & bs with everyone?

That would be me and my wife. We were getting sunburned and as mentioned, it was hot. Great event though, well worth the drive even from Houston.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
Next year it will be in spring or fall, to avoid the heat, but then we hafta avoid the rain. The rain is easier, since at worse, we just move it back 1 weekend.
Fall '11 might be easier to judge since there is less rain & we can watch this fall for when the rains come, to plan for next year.

I had been planning to go for months, and really bummed I didnt get to go. The thing with having a chronic disease is that things dont seem to pan out like you planned.
I see at least two guys from SA that made it out there, so I am glad they got a chance to meet the rest of you all.

no, i thought austin was going to be there before us, and they arrived as we were just getting a lay of the land. San antonio and Houston arrived later, after we fled indoors away from the heat.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I got there late, but it was fun to see a lot of thirdgens. My sons' GTA didn't pass inspection that morning, so we couldn't bring it. We forgot to fix the handbrake issue that we had, we focused on getting the exhaust welded. Girlfriend insisted that we stop at IKEA store. Could have spent a fortune there. Looking forward to next year.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
OK, it's been a few days, and I'd like to get some input from all of you that participated and even those that couldn't make it
First of all, let me say I like the Austin area as a location for the gathering. It's around a three hour drive from every Major city in Texas. I know that can be a hardship on those coming from Dallas and houston, but there's only two fair ways to do it. One, have a Central location that is a short drive for all involved, or have the location rotate from year to year. I'm not wild about that idea, because if we have it in Dallas, the houston and San antonio guys would be less likely to participate, You have it in San antonio or houston, and that's a 4 to 5 hour drive for the Dallas guys.
The option was raised by one of the Austin guys about having the gathering on Private land, much like the thirdgenfest is up north. I think that's a great idea if we aren't restricting the participation to a cap of a couple dozen cars. I would hate to see the event held back from growth because we chose too small a venue.
I liked Dukes, but Salt lick in round rock would be good too. They have unlimited parking thanks to sharing a parking lot with the baseball stadium, and they are right next to a park as well.
Even the day of the event the idea was raised to move everybody to a park for more shade, but we decided to stay put because of the free refills available to us, and the bathrooms inside the restaurant.
Next topic... time of year.... I think an April or May date would work fine, but the chances of rain dramatrically increase, so if we did that we should have two dates in mind. one for the event, and then another the next week to use as a rain date.
throw out your ideas, I'd love to see this event grow every year. If we do leave it in Austin, it would be great if the ATGO takes over the majority of the planning. Next year it would be great to come up with more to do on the day than just eat and look at cars, but I'm not sure what that would be.

throw out your ideas, I'd love to see this event grow every year. If we do leave it in Austin, it would be great if the ATGO takes over the majority of the planning. Next year it would be great to come up with more to do on the day than just eat and look at cars, but I'm not sure what that would be.
We tried Rudy's, but IIRC, they were more like "Hope you find seating together.....Good luck." No "We'll Reserve a table for your group." Dukes wanted our business more than Rudys, so we went there.
If we move slightly West, I still wanna do the road cruise on our favorite roads in Austin. The crotch rocket crowd really enjoy practically laying their bikes down to hit the curves at speed on those roads.
As for moving the date, I was thinking possibly moving it into the Fall instead of into the Spring. Still cool weather & less rain to avoid. Either way works for me though.

I like the central location idea of keeping in it Austin. Move it north & south people might not come. Move it south & north people might not come. IIRC, we only had 4 Houston people come.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I just had to share this info I just got from my insurance company.
Remember my fender?
From my insurance.....
"This email is in regards to the accident that you were involved on June 26, 2010. I have obtained a statement from the other driver and photos. My investigation is complete, and based on the damage to both vehicles; your accident description makes more sense. The damage to the front of your vehicle had to be done by her step rail when she was getting over. I have called the other driver and advised of me denying her claim."
She was trying to claim that all the door damage to her green SUV was caused my white car.
#1, there was no white paint on her car from mine
#2, there was no green paint on mine from her car
#3, her step rail was crushed in & black marks on my fender where we impacted
#4, my car is way too low to have caused the body damage that high to her SUV anyways
Now to get her insurance company to buy me a new fender. Non-vent/Trans Am fenders are harder to find than GTA/Formula fenders though.
Today is a good day!
If anybody knows where one (or both.....i need both front fenders) are, I'll gladly take the info & pass it on. Obviously I'd hafta buy the passenger side one myself, but I could save $ by getting it painted at the same time as the other one.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I definately wanna set up a photo shoot next year. At the very least, one big group pic of everybody there. But it would also be nice to have individual pics of the members with their car & both their real name & screen name. Lets put some faces to these names! I have a good local photographer friend that could do all it for us too.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I agree that a central location (Austin) is probably best.
Ideally, I would like to see it happen someplace where we could have the run of a parking lot to set up a mini-Auto-X, maybe even a 330' drag strip. Towards that goal I would not have any problem with a registration fee. $20.00, even $40.00 wouldn't not make much difference to me compared to the $200.00 in fuel it would cost me to get there and back. Plus, if there is a registration fee, we would know who was serious about attending.

And all the drag racing happens in San Antonio or Temple (if that track is even open anymore).

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I know Austin has never had a decent racing sceene, but I wonder if it might be possible to convince some parking lot owner to rent us there lot for 1 day a year. If they don't ask what we intend to do, I wouldn't offer any extra detail other than a "state wide car club meet". Maybe hire a local off duty PD to make sure we don't ge hasseled.
As long as we are doing "1-at-a-time" events and set it up properly, there isn't any significant danger of bodily harm.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I agree with Austin being the city we use for next years gathering. If Duke's isn't set in stone, I would like to throw this place out as an option. Southeast Metropolitan Park. The park info is provided in the link, but I've included a summary. We had a family party at this park/pavilion and it could definitely house our event.
Summary:
Website: http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tnr/parks...east_metro.asp
Map: Google Map of Southeast Metro Park
Features: Shelter, Restrooms, Playscape, Fishing pond, power outlet, big BBQ pit, plenty of parking!
Shelter Fee: $75 per day + $10 non-refundable fee + $50 deposit
$135 up front
$85 after deposit refund.
*Satellite photo attached. We could find a sponsor to cover the shelter costs(I used to do this alot when coaching little league) and take volunteers for meat to grill.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
looks like a nice place. If we wanted to do food, everybody could just bring their own coolers for a picnic type event.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
That's a bit south of Austin, like Georgetown was north of Austin. A few things lean towards having it in Round Rock or North Austin though...
Abilene + DFW = more people coming for north vs Houston for South
There are more North Austin ATGO members than South Austin ATGO members
It just seems like the majority of people would be coming from north than south, which leads me to think we should have a Gathering further north than south. If we move it too far south, we could lose the northern people. I suspect that is also why only 4 people from Houston showed up. They might have felt like it was too far north. We just need to find a good balance for all.
