Same here.

I think Austin or Waco would make for a good area so that it was more convenient for north & south Texas members. A little west would be better for El Paso, but there isn't anything real big west of Austin, that comes to mind.

Houston & Austin are neck & neck the attendance lead!

you know... why don't we do this... If the houston group has regulars that do gatherings, and central texas has one, we can have a yearly 3rd gen texasfest for everybody. Austin works for me, it's a 3 hour drive or less for most people

yeah i was thinking an event like that would be fun.. specially since houston has such a large concentration of members... i would think kileed/fort hood, would be a good mid point

Re: North Texas Gathering! January 31st

There are a lot of us in Houston, but it is not easy to get a good turnout. That said, I'm all in favor of a state wide meet.

Austin is centrally located, so it would get my vote. I would prefer a location that is easy to get too, scenic and not in a small town where the local PD might start seeing $$$. I also suggest a Summer date (longer days for daylight driving too and from) and early start and end times. That way people will not have to stay the night.

Re: North Texas Gathering! January 31st

Hmm, just imagine how much trouble we could cause with a convoy of 3rd gens heading up 290. But then again... might not be such a smart idea with all the small town Barney Fife's along the way.

Re: North Texas Gathering! January 31st

Sorry if I came across like I was trying to relocate the North Texas/Arlington meet.

If/when a Austin/Texas meet happens, it should be in a whole new thread. Not hijacking this one. Maybe like in Spring/early summer, when it warms up & the rains go away.

The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

I started a thread for a north texas gathering we are having later this month, and before I knew it, we had a bunch of posts with people expressing a desire for a texas gathering.

Since Austin is only 3 hours or less from all of the largest population centers of the state, It makes the most since to have it there, but if anybody has a great location available for use just about anywhere in the houston/ san antonio/ dallas triangle, speak up. After we get a location avaialble to us, details should fall into place pretty fast after that

I think late spring/early summer would be the best time of year for this, so let's keep the ideas coming for time/place and other organizational items

I know austin has a f-body club, but i'm not sure what the percentage of the membership is 3rd gen. North Texas has the NTTGA, and I'm not sure about houston or san antonio.

OK, here's the official brainstorming thread. Post your ideas and interest, and we'll see if we can get together something cool and fun.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

Austin has a 3rd gen specific club. http://www.austinthirdgen.org/

There is an Austin F-Body Club, but lately, more & more members have swapped out for Vettes. The Austin Y-Body Club now?

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

More or less, but I haven't been very active over there lately.

I've got a couple ideas in mind, that are easy access from I-35, which would best for all coming, for easy access.

Georgetown, just north of Austin, has a good park on a river. Good parking, plenty of tables & (i think) even public BBQ pits!

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

i think it would be pretty cool. i know we are getting a get together done for the spring summer time down here now. and we will have another one near winter. but it might be a bit far for some to go. especially since most might be under the knife for the spring summer meet.

A place for the kids to play is good, but there is no way I can get my Wife and Son to put up with riding in my car long enough to get to Austin. I'll probably be by myself. If I'm really lucky and drive slow I might even make it there and back on 3 tanks of gas.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

ok we are going to have to get a little organized here as well. some cars will fly thru with no problems. some will need to stop for gas. some will have something little go wrong and hope to god no someone might break down. the houston group will have to either keep all together or go in packs that will wait for some. as erc said he is going to have to stop and fill up so will i. there will have to be a group of people that stick together no matter what. my wife has offered to bring our avalanche to put in supplies. this would be really cool to get set up. maybe even two way radios with in the groups.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

other thing we need to think about is a place that is really easy to get to for everyone. from what i hear roundrock is on the other side of austin which would make the houston trip a 5 hour deal instead of a 3 hour deal. we need a park or somewhere that is really easy to get to without having to go all the way thru town.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

actually from where i live it is about 180 to 190 miles. you are talking about a group that has to make stops. so you are looking at about 4 hours there and 4 hours back. all together it would take the group about 10 hours driving with stops and keeping together. not for me. that is a lot of time on the road. and if we have to go through towns that will make even more time. we need to come up with a local place in austin. not everyone is going to be haulin *** either. and if you are talking north of there it is even farther. not saying people cars wont make it but that is a long way on our cars. they arent brand new either. i live in league city not houston. esc lives near sugarland. most that live on the north side it would be cool. heck im only 20 miles from galveston.

I can't think of anywhere that is less than 3 hours away for everybody. Austin is the most centrally located place that also has good facilities. I'm not even sure where the park is that steven is looking at, so let's see what he's got

college station/Bryan would be fine too, but we would need somebody that lives there to be a point man for us

i think we need to see how many people are coming from where. right now it seems as though most are from dallas-arlington area and then the houston area. if that is where the most are coming from then somewhere along i45 seems to be better. like buffalo or a place right above that. no toll roads. 70mph interstate. but it will depend on where most people are coming from. just an idea. i suppose if there are people coming from all over texas it would be different. buffalo os about 2 1/2 hour drive from arlington and from houston.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

Austin is a 4 hour drive for me. My vote is Austin or Round Rock. If my car is ready by then, I'd probably trailer it up there and unload in Austin. Instead of a park, can we look into organizing a drive and with a bbq place as a stopping point to eat. I was in San Antonio/Austin this weekend and drove to Salt Lick BBQ just south of Austin. The food there is AWESOME and the drive from Kyle is just as beautiful. They have plenty of parking (not paved unfortanetly ) and a nice hang out spot while you wait for a table. Just an idea.....I'll try and keep updated with this post to see if I could make the meet.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

a restaurant would be nice.. that way everybody could get what they want to, and we don't have to worry about bringing in food and drinks

What about rudy's in Round rock?

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

I'm going to throw out two dates for consideration... June 19th, and june 20th. One is a Saturday and the other's a sunday. Both have advantages, but I woul think more people would be available on a sunday..

thoughts?

I would think the opposite, because of Church on Sunday, for those that attend.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

Wow, just stumbled upon this. This would be awesome. Looks like Toad and Stephen are the only other Austin area guys posting on this thread. So I'll create a thread on ATGO and tell everyone to update the TGO thread. Anywhere is fine for me. I'm close to 130 so I could take that anywhere up north. If we do a Saturday, maybe some would want to create a Thirdgen invasion at one of the local Saturday car meets(Buda Cabela's, Tinseltown pVille, or any other spots).

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

very true.... that's why I also suggested a saturday date. For our local gatherings, I hear a lot of people say they can't make a saturday gathering because of work, but I didn't take into account the time it takes to travel, and how that effects people schedule

Saturday the 19th is fine with me

Once some details get posted I'll make a sticky on ATGO, I'm sure most of us will show... including my LS1 thirdgen that hardly leaves the garage... I will make sure the bitch runs enough for this meet.

It would be half that travel time (3 hrs, 7 min trip & Mapblast always says longer than it really is anyways), one way. Not like 6-7 hr trip at once! So you'd have several hours to rest between them. AND...That is using no Toll Roads!

I don't wanna make big plans & rent space, then only 5 people outside of Austin show up.

its 3 hours there and three hours back. plus stops which would add another hour or two. even if no tolls gas is a 100 bucks or more. plus food is another 40 or 50. plus we are going to come in a group. which may take even longer. so to me 6 or 8 hours on the road to stop for about 4 or 5 hours with just a few people showing up isnt worth it to me. if it were a bunch of people say 30 or more it would be great. and if someone breaks the whole day is shot. i have to come back the same day since i have a family.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread

i'm coming either way, butI do think for the first one it would be smart to not rent a park, but instead use existing space in a restaurant.

Also, if the weather is too hot or to rainy to spend much time outside, we've still got AC and a roof

Hmmmm, I like that idea.....How about a Rudy's BBQ? They always have indoor AND outdoor seating, so we'd be covered either way. No cooking our own food either!

Round Rock & right on I35....
