Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I'll defer choosing a start time to the long-distance drivers, since they'd have to leave the earliest.
There is a pretty nice little 1.5 lane short twisty we could make a cruise out of, pretty much behind Rudy's (going due east).

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
Except that is the day after MLK day, so I dunno if that would create any kind of holiday travel plan conflicts for anybody. Even they don't really celebrate that holiday, it might give them a 3-day weekend (its on the Friday before that date) to travel.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I just know it as "June teenth". I had to look up the date, which is June 18th.
I know there are always some kind of Festivals or celebrations....Some kind of community gathering around here. Dunno if they do them ON it, or the weekend near it.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
It won't affect me AT ALL, either way. Just thinking of a possible 3-day weekend, might interfere with others travel plans & reduce our attendance.
Wanna push it to the weekend after? June 26th?

OK....June 19th, 2pm? Not a little earlier, so people don't have head home so soon & end up with just a short day here?

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I want to go. It's too early to know if work might interfere, and I can't drive my car on a REALLY rainy day because it will suck too much water in through the holes in the hood.
But chances are VERY good that I will make it.
BTW, before we get too far along, I suggest that someone contact Rudy's and make sure that they are not already hosting a Juneteenth parade or something else that might interfere. For that matter, it would be good to see if they are even interested in hosting this. Maybe they could provide some reserved parking or free drinks or something.
Hopefully if the Houston and San Antonio crowds show and ATGO and maybe NTTGO we will have a good size turnout.
Does anyone know anyone in the Corpus Area? We don't hear much from around there, but every time I am there I see third-gens everywhere!

I'll contact Rudy's this week, and i'm actually going to be passing right by it the weekend before that, so I'l drop in and confirm everything with the manager then
By then we should have a pretty good idea on how many are coming

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
Coming from DEEP SOUTH TEXAS. My car should be out of the paint shop by March so I'll make plans to be there. It's a 4.5 hour drive for me, so i hope we have a good turnout. Can we try to plan a whole day event, maybe a carshow early morning, lunch, drive and possible dinner or party afterwards. I think we need to make it worth while for people to drive that far and for a good event. We should also look into meeting at a local track Friday night for anyone who may be driving up the day before.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
you know... I think this idea has a lot of merit to it, but I'm not in a position to plan anything like this becasue I'm in Dallas
How about we work with the ATGO, and see if they can plan events before and after the lunch. Leave the lunch at rudy's intact, but offer more events for those wanting to do more.
Austin guys, what do you think?

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
We could make a whole weekend out of it.
It would be nice if we could set up some track time, maybe have an Auto-X, a Drag Strip, an on-site Dyno, maybe even a... I had better stop there.
I know it is a little ridiculous, but Texas is a big state, it seems like we ought to be able to find a big parking lot somewhere in the state where we could play for a day.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
ATGO has a thread going about this......
http://www.austinthirdgen.org
There is a dyno to hit.... http://www.colvinautomotive.com/ That is when Overhaulin' built Lance Armstrong's car for the show. And I think I've heard of a dyno in Pflugerville, which is practically part of Round Rock, but I don't know any more than that.
South of Austin is a small roundy-round track that we could set us up for Parade laps before the race started.
Some nice hill country/twisty roads we could play on (within speed reason), but nothing really in the way of race tracks, either ni drag/autocross or even open parking lots to play in. Even our local autocross club runs more in San Antonio than here.
I local road race place, but no idea on the fees to rent that, or if they even have open-track days.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I would be willing to drive to the austin area. but if its just a lunch get together I don't think it would be worth the effort. thats about a 7 hour round trip. something with a set meet area that can hold 30 or 40 cars would be pretty cool. and like esc mentioned something to do that day besides eat makes it a little more interesting. 1/4 mile, dyno, mini show and shine, anyone thing would work?? don't really have to cruise anywhere because it would take 3 hours to get there.
ofcourse I am not doing the leg work, so its easy for me to make a suggestion.

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
And what if some of us wanted to drive up the day before (or stay Saturday night), but are too cheap to get a hotel, and wanted to pitch a tent. Are there any good parks around that allow camping?
BTW, there was this cool, outdoor, party place with pavilions, parking and a variety of other amenities, tucked away in the N.E. corner of 183 and 71 where Motorola had a company party once upon a time when my Wife worked for them (We lived in Cedar Park at the time). Does anyone know anything about that place?

Re: The TEXAS statewide gathering thread
I will post this on our SA3GO boards.
I would prefer Round Rock over Houston of course, its closer. I and a buddy drove for over 4 hours and ended up attending the last hour or so of the Houston meet in frigid cold weather.
I will keep an eye on the thread, it looks like we are still in planning stages.

I'm hearing from so many people how busy rudy's is, I'm having second thoughts about the place. I've got an uncle that lives in round rock, I'll call him and see if he thinks it's stupid to try to have a gathering there on a saturday, and ask if he thinks there is someplace cool we can get a room reserved, or at least a few tables close together reserved
Sorry about the waffle, but I don't want to get there and not be able to sit as a group

I've never been to that location, much less at 1pm on a Saturday.
We could have 20 coming or 80 coming. No way of knowing, especially this early.

talked to my relatives, they said rudy's is busy, but they have a very small parking lot. SHe gave me the name of a couple of other places, and they have a friend what does a lot of car club events down there and will find out what places in the area are "car friendly"

I'm all for picking a place which WANTS our business. I would hope that the prospect of 20 to 80 more customers should at least warrant a roped off part of their parking lot.
As a matter of fact, if they (whoever "they" are) are not willing to offer us some sort of concession (reserved parking, free drinks, something!) I suggest that we keep looking.

Since I am north west of Austin, I don't know the I35 corridor all that well, as to good locations for a gathering of this size.
I've thought about just going, driving it & looking, but I don't have the time to, that I used to.

There was a restaurant out in Cedar Park that had a car show occasionally when I lived out there (10 years ago). They were (IIRC) right on 183 out past 1431, maybe near Co Rd 180. It was on the end of a strip center.
Anyone know about this place?

McKinney falls state park is a nice campground that's only 12 miles Southeast of Austin. I actually lived there for two months when I first moved to Austin, until I had enough money saved to get an apartment.
I think the party place you once visited was Shady springs party barn. I've been there 5 times for the company picnic. Very nice but probably expensive. http://www.shadyspringspartybarn.com/

On the same lines, there is http://www.tiltedkilt.com/ which is right off I35 & my (17yr old) step-daughter actually be a waitress there. You'll hafta take my word for it, I'm not sharing the pics! While I am proud of here, I'm more proud that she went & got a different waitressing job, just up the road. Hmmmm.....Maybe I'll hafta see what the layout is up there, but it is like right by the Rudy's, so the parking lot isn't that big & "shared" by all the line of businesses there.
