What part of town are you from? I grew up in El Paso!!

 

i grew up in the central area. but now live in northeast

 

I was from the N.E.!! Andress, Irvin, Parkland High neighborhood!!
We used to go to What-a-burger that was close to Dyer & Mcombs street area.
Geez that was...ummm...a lllooooong time ago! LOL
Is " El Paso Speedway Park " still holding the dirt track races? Used to be Saturday nights. Drag strip still around?

 

I went to Andress H.S. back in the day. It's been almost 10 years since i've lived there though.

When I was a tyke we lived on Calgary!!
Dad got stationed in Taiwan for 3 yrs. When we came back, we lived on Vandenburg, just a block from Rail Road Dr. Back then the Safeway distribution center was being planned. I remember riding bikes out there b4 RailRoad Dr. was even cleared in the desert!!
My Senior yr we moved to the East side, about 4-5 blocks from EastWood High. But I went to a private school for that.

Last time I lived there was '91. I worked at a screenprint shop around Rojas // Pelicano // Lee Travino some odd.

The place to go on weekends was El Paso SpeedWay Park, the Drag strip, or Ciello Vista Mall.

How's that for old!?!

funny enough ceilo vista is still one of the happening spots. idk what drag strips are in el paso now. i barely starting getting in to cars and every time it seems im getting ready to go check it out they close it down.

 

nathanec says he's gonna cruise from El Paso to Austin, for the 2010 Texas State TGO Gathering in June. Anybody gonna join him? Or does he hafta make the drive by himself?

 

Back " in the day " , the drag strip was way out on Montana, about a mile or 2 past the then El Paso Speedway Park.

I saw many special events featuring OutLaw Sprints & OutLaw Modified.
They would be 3 wide in the turns going ALL OUT!! Man, I can still taste the nachos with alky fumes!!

Last time I was at the Drags, there were some jet cars, Roger Gustin was one of the drivers!!

I would venture a guess that Yearwood Speed & Custom is still in business?? Are they still close to the Mall on GateWay East??
Bought my first set of headers from them for my '54 Chevy truck in like '82 or '83...
I remember it was hard to know if // when the strip would be open. Sorry to hear that hasn't changed!!

i wants to say they are still open. A few of my friends have told me of a shop around there for parts. I barely got my bird in june so i havent had a chance to look around. usually i buy my parts off ebay.
