Weighing the options

Hey all. Need your feedback please.

My stock TPI is creeping up there in age and rather than spending all my time under the hood fixing this and or that I am thinking that I would rather start with a fresh rebuild of the heads, cam and block, but not sure about the EFI.

I want a car that has enough manners for a daily driver, yet enough under the hood to spank the new Mustang that revs it up at the light. Can I squeeze that kind of performance out of a TPI?

So considering the overall costs....I boiled it down to the stock TPI or maybe moving over to the HSR. If I go HSR I think I would want to move to the Vortec heads...with TPI, I would lean against Vortec heads only bcz the intake doesnt fit. Based on the two options I am guessing that I would probably be most pleased with the HSR as far as performance goes.

The other question I have....If I go HSR...how do "people" pass state inpection since it has no EGR? Most of you being in Texas I would guess you may have "heard" how to pass inspection. Not that anyone on this fine forum would do anything to circumvent state emissions regulations Is it a matter of chip burning to fool the computer that an EGR is in place or is it soley a sniffer test?

Your constructive feed back is welcomed. Please drop your

Re: Weighing the options

Well if you had a blank check, and wanting to keep a tpi. miniram would be the way to go.
how about arizona speed and marine large tube runners? my old set up from 1994. 383, ASM runners,190 afr heads, 219/219 cam, all bolt on's, good for 12.70's. HAd a superram, never really liked it. Start checking the for sale section, you never know.. I sold my superam, upper and lower intake, 52mm throttle body, 30lb injectors for around 1300.00 bucks last year.

Re: Weighing the options

I bet that LS1 is impressive. Mini Ram....Way too much money for an ol skool set up...besides I am skeptical of the durability.

LS1 sounds great, but I know how expensive it can get. Chances are I will just stick with a freshly built TPI and a few bolt ons. She wont be the fastest....but she wont be a slouch either.

Re: Weighing the options

Depends on what you want man. Here is a great break down for an automatic car:

5.3 can be had for 500$ or so

Carb, intake and MSD 6010 box 700$

Shorty headers as low as 100$

Swap plates 30$

Then, you can use the truck accessories and you are pretty set unless you want AC, then t cost a bit more from there.

1500$ or so you can get a HARRRD running LS engine in there. Not bad really, and from there if something happens you can just swap another 5.3 or even a 6.o like me, they are plentiful and dont need rebuilds. They are monsters for these cars, the 5.3 is 280 HP in its early day and they are way over 300 FTLBS. Make one of these cars move in stock form.
