Houston Gathering idea - later this summer

Guys, I was thinking about having a gathering later this summer to include people from all over Texas. Cody said we should have one down here, & I agree. My plan is to rent out Lone Star Raceway Park, which is an 1/8 mile dragstrip out west of houston for those of you that don't know. It's not a big fancy track like HRP or TX Motorplex, but I think it will serve our purposes just fine. The rate is only 350 bux/hour and 50 bux/hour after that, plus the cost of EMT's (don't know how much that is). It would probably be on a sunday, when there is nothing going on there. The way I see it, we'll need at least 10-12 cars to make it affordable and the more cars we get, the cheaper it gets. We could probably all meet at the Street Meet on Kuykendahl saturday evening, & I'm sure my dad would let at least a few of the out-of-towners stay at my house. We could caravan to the track sunday, and after we're done, go somewhere to eat. Jamieson mentioned a BBQ @ Meyer Park, could be a cool place to hang & show off all our cars Rocky, I think between the two of us & input from others, we could make a real kick-@ss gathering. I'll be at the Street Meet this coming saturday around 7:30 & we can talk about it more there with whoever else shows up.

So, who's interested?

Mike,

I'll be there this weekend. I'll have to check on the Meyer park thing. Its fairly public, but We may want to consider Bear Creek. (i think thats what its called)
Its the Park that I met you and Patrick at on hwy 6. That would keep everyone familiar with one area, because its way closer to the track and I-10.

We will talk about it this weekend, If for any reason I cant make it I'll post it.

Mike,
I'm in man.. even though i'm more HRP than LSR.. I bet the Cinemark on Grand Parkway would let us use the far left part of their parking lot to have a pretty good size gathering. No one ever parks there, since Katy Mills opened no one hardly ever goes to Cinemark anymore. I'll go up there and ask them how much, if any, they'd charge to let us use their parking lot, make a car show out of it or something.. just a thought. If anyone wants to autocross instead of drag race, I know the Police Academy rents out their test track.

Hey Anthony, that sounds cool about the Cinemark thing. I really don't wanna autocross though cuz my front suspension is f'ed up & it probably won't be fixed in time, so drag would be the only way I'd be able to race.

Rocky, I'm going to go to the Street Meet on the 19th (if it doesn't rain!) & we can talk about it there, Anthony & anyone else, try to show up there too to get everyone's input.

Rock, Baer Creek is on Clay road, about 3/4 mile East of Hwy 6. They have covered pavillions with parking areas that groups can reserve, don't know about any fee. The older section of the park is where they have the pavillions, and is probably better for a gathering. The newer section is where the soccer fields/zoo are, and its a lot busier on weekends. There's also a "camping/picnic" area in the South part of the park, but cars would have to spread out a bit too much.

I'd like to make it, but I'll have to build up a new motor first since I'll be digging the pieces of my block and a couple of forged conn rods out of the oil pan this weekend.

there's a soccer tournament at Bear Creek every single weekend.. it gets crazy.. I wouldn't even want to drive my car through there on a weekend.. stupidity level gets pretty high. Let me know when you pick a date.

Thats mainly what I was trying to avoid with Meyer Park. Meyer is there primarialy for soccer, weekends in that place are nuts.

Hey everyone, I'm from the Victoria area and would like some info on your gatherings. It's kinda far away, but I would love to come anyway. Although I haven't done many things to my car, I still think it would be cool to hang out with others with cars similar to mine. I'm not too sure if I could make it, but I would try my hardest to be there. Someone please E-mail me @ juice772@hotmail.com.

By the way , I already have a white 91 Z28 coupe w/ a 350, but I am looking into buying another 91 Z28 that only has a 305, but is red and is t-top. The used car lot is only asking 2500 for it , but it has ~174000 miles on it. Do you think it would be worth it to buy it and replace the engine. It has a ton of options, but I'm not sure if they all work. I have only seen one picture of the car online, but it seems to be in great condition. Thanks for the help.
