Hey everyone. I am going to sell my GTA soon and I would like some help in pricing it. Could you give me your input?

1987 GTA with 162,000 miles on the body. Has been repainted at some point in time. The Predator hood and rear fiberglass spoiler are less than 1 year old. Just had them painted. There are some scratches on the body. The drivers side quarter panel has a dent in it, but it is hardly visible. You can't notice it unless I point it out. Black leatherseats are in good shape with a 1 inch wear spot on drivers side bolster. Carpet is gray and has one small wear spot on the drivers side. Overall, the interior is in good condition The dash is almost perfect and the center console, headliner are all nice.

The engine and trans are from an 89 Formula 350.

-The L98 was rebuilt 14,000 miles ago, and runs perfectly. It is stock except Bosch III injectors. Always starts and runs awesome. ECM has a Superchip in it (no VATS).

-The 700R4 was rebuilt last week. It has a shift kit in it and works perfectly.

-There are no cats on the car and the exhaust dumps right in front of the rear axle.

-Tires are good. They have probably 1/2 tread left.

-The rear axle is a 10 bolt. It doesn't look original. I think it's a 4th gen.

-New parts:
Radiator, 4x shocks and brakes (4xpads, front rotors) all around, TPS, IAC, intake gaskets, battery, fuel pump, Bosch III injectors, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, thermostat, water pump.

-A/C is ice cold. Cruise works. All interior/exterior lights and everything else works except oil pressure gauge, e-brake, rear defroster. I can get the defroster and oil pressure gauge working, just need to connect the wiring.

Take a look at the pictures, and please let me know what a good asking price might be. Thanks!
Travis

Average price for these cars is like $3000 in good condition (from what I've seen),
and if you have all the receipts for the work you've done....
I'd say $5000-6000 would be a fair asking price.

Mileage isn't too much of a deal breaker. These cars are old, of course they are going to have miles on them (especially when you have proof that the transmission and engine have been rebuilt and the body looks good).
As long as there is no rust, your good.

I'm thinking more like $8,000. You have to take into consideration what you put into the car as well. You have some fairly new parts on the car as well. I would goto the http://www.gtasourcepage.com/ and http://www.gtasourcepage.com/forum/ For information on the GTA. Also depends on what the buyer wants to pay and what you really want to sell the car for.

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
I think I will start it somewhere around $6500 for starters. The engine and transmission rebuild cost $5000. Besides, I am in no rush for cash, so I have that going for me. If it doesn't sell by the first of the year (I'd be surprised if it did with Christmas coming and all) then I'll put it on ebay.

You guys have been a big help.

Well, my wife wants a newer truck, suv, whatever to haul the kids around. something smaller than a suburban. once that's settled, i'm one step closer to getting a boat!

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
I always low ball these cars, but its usually what people actually sell them for

Realistically I'm thinking $5000. You could probably get more if you sit on it and advertise it for weeks/months.

But getting over $8000, Or even $8000 for it doesn't seem likely to me, I'd love to be wrong though

Maintenance parts aren't really going to add to the value for most people, The rebuilds might get SOME people to pony up to a higher price, but no where near what they should pay for it (if you have receipts), if you paid $1500 for a rebuild, you can expect that to add maybe 500 (tops) to the asking price, just saying.

Once again, I hope I'm wrong and you sell it for 15k. I wish you the best of luck in your sale, its a beautiful car.

Hey, thanks for the input. I believe that 5K is a little more realistic, actually. BUT, I am in no hurry, so Iwe'll see where it goes. I have receipts for everything that's been done, so that should help some.

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
You might get $5k out of it, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Remember, it is a 23 year old car and needs TLC periodically. No one without prior auto knowledge will buy it knowing these facts, unless they are young and it is their first car or something.

Not trying to bust your *****. I just wouldn't pay $5k for it, more like $1k-$2k.

Your just being honest. I know I asked for opinions, so that's the way it goes. It's funny though, one opinion is $8K, the other is $1K.

The one who said 1k doesn't have a lick of sense.

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
That's the downside to these cars, they bluebook low (at least last time i checked). But they're worth more than they book for. The only ones worth their bluebook are the uncared for ones, which yours is clearly not.

All i know is around here, thats a 5000 dollar car, the ones that sell for 1000 here are v6, unmatching rims, not running(or barely running)

I stick by my previous evaluation. lol

I know im not exactly into firebirds and basing this off thirdgens i've seen in general, I just cant see $1000.

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
Well, I think I'm just gonna hold onto it for a while. I don't really need to sell it, I would just like to have some other toys. I may try again after the first of the year because I know that part of the lack of interest is due to Christmas coming up.

Besides, I love driving the car and it's a fantastically reliable, fun, ride.

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
Read the definitions of the grade levels in the blue books. Good quality to us is fair-poor quality to them

Id offer $1500 on that and take it if the seller countered around $2000. You wont get $5000 or even 4. The economy is in the tank, you're selling in the wrong season and the car isnt exactly rare or in the best condition. The color doesnt help. The OEM white always looks like a dirty dishrag even when its clean

Im not knocking your car, just trying to be realistic. If you want the best idea of pricing go to ebay and watch every single 87-90 GTA. Once they end, ignore the ones that didnt sell and compare those that did to your car. Youll see a lot full of high stickers doesnt mean anything when they all sell for peanuts

I've seen quite a few GTA's like his sell for 4-4500 locally, especially if he can provide the receipts. $1,500 around here will get you a car that either doesn't run, or needs some serious work.. either with the drivetrain or the body, one of the two. $1,500 for his car is a giant lowball where I'm located.

I say you ask $4,200, and go no less than $3,500 unless you're just absolutely desperate.

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
I would set your asking price at $7,500, and if you're a good haggler, try to let them feel comfortable with taking you down $1,500 with some negotiation. If someone makes a cash offer of $5,000 or more, just pounce on it.

That would be my game plan. Nice GTA, BTW. Good luck with the sale.

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
No offense taken.

As I said before, I realize that it's not a good time to sell anything. I also know that $1500-$2000 is really low for it in any market, at any time of the year. This car has a lot going for it and when you consider everything, that figure just doesn't make sense. It's been garage kept, runs and drives nice, has nice paint, no rust, has a rebuilt engine and trans, new fiberglass hood and spoiler, etc, etc, etc.

If I get time, I'm gonna cruise ebay for a couple of days and tally up some finding on GTA's. This should be interesting.

Thanks for the compliments on my car. I've put a lot of work into it, and I really enjoy it.

Re: Need help pricing 1987 GTA
I say start out at 6000 and get at least 5000. Nada lists the car high retail as 6,825, Average retail as 5,125 and low retail as 2,550. It looks like my car is worth more now then when I bought it. http://www.nadaguides.com/
