Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

Alright guys you're letting me down. Recently moved up here and I've seen some nice third gens (that probably laugh at my turd) but after a forum/club search it's came to my attention that there's not exactly a meet for us. So I have to ask, what's going on? Is there a secret password that I haven't learned yet or do you guys not get together or what? I'd really like to drool over your cars I can't afford to match but I only see you on 40 and 321 and visiting people.

I've seen there's plenty of people on here in the Charlotte area the triangle etc. There was even a beautiful black t top 2 doors down from me earlier this week. Do you all get together at all? Is there a blood (or oil) ritual to get into the club? Come on people I think we should take over a parking lot for a little bit

I'll start, I'm near lenoir, 305 TBI 700r4 trans that will not be staying that way. Primer coated, lowered, laughably slow that was given to me. Your turn!

Re: Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

Im down in Lincolnton. Car half running right now and not much to look at.

I haven't heard of any gatherings, but I really haven't looked into it. Too much going on in my life at this point anyways.

But good to see a fellow thirdgen.org member nearby.

Indeed. Don't worry mine's not running right or anything to look at right now either. We all know they're money pits lol

Re: Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

Nice to see someone else is in this area!! I live in Hickory, my daily driver is my burgundy '87 Iroc. I don't know of any third gen meet & greets...but it sure would be nice. There are a few car shows around Hickory area (Hildebran, Myra's in Valdese, bigger one in downtown Lenoir) and I usually see one or two third gens. Hickory seems to have a ton of "tuner" activity, I get after 'em every chance I get! Maybe we should pull together and show 'em some American muscle...third gen style...I'm game

Re: Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

Oh that sounds like so much fun but my car is in terrible shape right now. Needs a head gasket got to swap the ignition cylinder over to its new column and drop it in. Still mostly stock drive train. I do routinely play with some late models in the corners and make them hate their lives lol. The sidewalls of my front tires tellthat story >.>

Keep an eye out if you go by cccti I'm driving it back and forth to school atm you'll probably see it depending on what parking lot I can get into for any given class (she scrapes a bit) but yea one of these days we'll have to get every body together at bww or cookout or something.

OOOH!! I was so rude. I Forgot to say. That car is beautiful sir

Re: Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

Always a work in progress.....no matter how much progress we make, lol. I finished part of high school at CCC&TI, back in the day. I know that '92 should stick to the road good if it's lowered! My '85 Trans Am sure did! Don't need to be worried too much about it not being in great shape, none of these ladies are perfect (unless you sink $$$) but they ARE classic, and they can all tell a story. We definitely need to get something going for sure. I just bought a '83 CrossFire Z28, my 11 year old helped me pull the engine, he has a blast messing with these cars!

It looks pretty good from that distance, and that's her best side. Closer up and inside...she ain't a beauty queen, lol. That's ok tho, cuz I'm not afraid to drive her anywhere I want to go. She actually has a bra now, hides the unpainted front bumper cover

Awesome! Your Iroc is a year newer than mine, and sounds like you're packing quite a bit more punch!! My motto is "If it ain't modified, it ain't mine!". My '83 will be carrying a 388 stroker AND will be keeping it's CrossFire injection system (heavily modified, of course). I would really like to get some of us third gen guys meeting up somewhere, it would be fun

Re: Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

I'm up for a meet for sure. Keep in mind I'm a broke currently unemployed college student when we get to picking a location lol. I hope to put either a 350 in mine or a 400. I thought about just being all the way different and making it a diesel purely to troll everyone hehe. Realistically though keep it sbc for now. I don't get behind the LS the world craze. Also idr if i said in the op mine's a heritage edition rs not iroc or z28 so no real goodies in it.

91 RS I'm working to clone to look like an IROC I had 15 years ago.

I like your IROC. The maroon red looks great on our cars.

Any good salvage yards in Hickory? I have a buddy from Taylorsville who said they had a great junk yard. I cant find it online Im wondering if its in another bordering town.

Re: Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

I haven't been able to be on here much lately. I have plenty of time now, but unfortunately can't do anything about meeting up or anything else for the next couple months. Had surgery 2 days ago on my foot, out of commission now for at least two months

There's a couple yards in the area, but not much in the way of third gens. A guy at Auto Zone told me of one with our cars in I think Statesville. Most local salvage yards here don't have websites, might find some on yellowpages.com tho.

Thanks for the mention on my car, she needs work like the rest of everybody elses cars, but she ain't too bad I guess.

I hope you will post pics of yours as you transform it, be very cool to see her all finished!

edit....just noticed that '91 build thread is yours. Nice looking ride, and those seats do look like they would be comfortable. Keep up the good work!

Re: Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

Best place I've found is L&L U Pull It down in King's Mountain (Shelby really but they're barely across the line) there's quite a few third gens down there in the yard and Miranda is awesome. Tell her LJ sent you and she may give you a discount. Just don't go stealing all my parts I need a lot of trim and interior pieces :P

That's good to know, I'm not too far from Shelby, less than an hour. I'll have to check 'em out when I get back to walking around. Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of this one.

No problem, anything in particular you need? I may be making a trip down there in the next week or two. Actually thinking about it if I don't and anyone does go that way and happens to find one with good hatch hydraulics shoot me a message please. I just realized I haven't even looked.

One of the first things I can think of is the front bumper spoiler/ground effect for the '83 Z. Mine has broken front teeth, lol. She's also gonna need a shifter assembly and gear selector plate, and that ridiculously hard to find, round leather wrapped push button shifter ****. Shoot me a line if you see any of that there, I'd appreciate it.

Hey,

Is anyone aware of any Salvage yards that you can pick your own parts that have 3rd Gens? I am in Huntersville and pickins are slim around here?

Only one I go to has already been mentioned (L&L U-Pull in Kings Mountain/Shelby.) Idk if i mentioned it but there's a much larger one a couple miles up from there.

Side note: I'm riding down the road atm (not driving) and I've seen third gens everywhere heading down or to South 321. Anybody know what's going on?

Re: Hickory, NC area? Stand up!

I was back in knightdale nc to go to prices salvage on Monday looking for 90 and earlier front spoiler.

They have more third gens then anywhere I know currently. I spotted 10 camaros and 5 birds while the guy took me around on a golf card.

Unfortunately theyre overpriced and inflexible. Which Im expecting a reasonable deal on parts on a car you dont have inventoried, has sat for 10+ years in the field, and I only found because I begged them to escort me back, not 300 for some ground effects. Theyre also mostly weather worn cars. I pretty much stopped looking for interior parts after viewing a few of their cars.

I still need to visit the yard mentioned above. Theres also a really big yard in walkertown or germantown i need to go back to.
