2022 Hot Rod Power Tour Anyone Going?

I've been talking about it since 2013 only to have something come up at the last minute. This year I aim to make it happen.

Anyone else going?

Re: 2022 Hot Rod Power Tour Anyone Going?

Power Tour is a great event. I have done many times most of them long hauls with several different cars. Once with a small block swapped S10 4x4 , with a couple different Vettes and of course the Camaro. The variety of cars, some cool and some crazy is amazing. In years past there were x-cross events but that seems to be gone. There are still at least a couple stops each year with drag racing and they tend to ignore the normal rules and let anyone run. It is the only time my convertibles could run because they were too fast for no roll bar. Gm has dropped their sponsorship and been replaced by Toyota , That was a major disappointment for me but it was still a great time. I did like the June dates better than Aug . Last year was only 5 stops instead of 7 but 5 is better than none! Any car guy who has not tried it should , if for a stop or 2 . It is a unique experience.

Re: 2022 Hot Rod Power Tour Anyone Going?

I’m taking my new to me 1988 Trans Am GTA from Southern Indiana.

In 2019, the Power Tour went right in front of my house as we watched from the lawn. We were hooked for 2020 but due to Covid, it didn’t happen. Then last year we took my ‘18 Hellcat and it was miserable due to the heat 95+ everyday. We brought Hot Wheels for the kids but most were in school which sucked.

I am glad they are moving it back to June. Hopefully the weather will be a touch better.

FYI, we paid for the Platinum package. It was nice to have air conditioned lounge. The downside was being stuck at a Comfort Inn that I doubt my wife would have stayed in normally for two nights. It was not well organized. In hindsight, we will either go with the Gold package or Long Hauler.

I have a group planning on doing the Pensacola to Atlanta Leg. First time doing anything like that, so we're excited. Hopefully it will be T Top friendly weather.

Re: 2022 Hot Rod Power Tour Anyone Going?

The work on my GTA convertible is well underway. Mechanically it will be ready. The top and paint I'm a little concerned about being ready on time. I think I will do what I can to have to top installed on time and worry about paint last. I'll drive it with blistering paint if I have to but I aim to be there on the tour.

My birthday is on the 15th and it would be damn cool to be in a convoy of 3rd Gens. Anyone considering joining the tour in Birmingham? I figured I would start the tour in Birmingham and just drive over from Atlanta area on the 15th. Anyone else considering doing this?

As far as the group going from Pensacola to AMS have yall come up with a meet up spot when leaving Pensacola? If so let me know I would like to ride along.

I hear ya, Slowridr, paint is waaaay down on my list, like already crossed out. So i will have the blistered clear coat as well. Not sure on the meetup place in Pensacola yet. I'll be staying in the west part of town. Lemme check with the rest of my convoy, I'm sure we can all meet up somewhere. Cant wait!

Re: 2022 Hot Rod Power Tour Anyone Going?

Necromancing the thread - I went this year (did the long haul), but didn't take my Camaro. ::cough:: took my S550 Mustang ::cough:: The irony is I thought it was going to be too much money to get my Camaro ready so I opted for my mustang... and then realized I probably spent more on my mustang than I would have on my camaro... whooops.

Planning to go next year, and was planning to bring my camaro, but my kid hates being in the backseat with the top down and like I'm gonna do the tour with the top up. Since it's supposed to be an enjoyable event and my attempt at getting her interested in car culture and hot rods I figured it wouldn't be the best intro to force her to ride for 7 days in a car she hates being in. SO I'm trying to get the LS swap in my 57 Chevy buttoned up and roll in that. she'll be ugly - but it'll be the first time she'll have seen the road in over 20 years and I can't think of a more perfect christening then the HRPT2023.

If you decide you want to go on future tours and want to meet up send me a DM.

Not quite sure what you're getting at here - but the HRPT is basically a different venue in a different city each day. Previously (before cov-aids) it was 7 cities in 7 days. This year it was 5 cities in 5 days - I guess you could consider these stops. The event puts out a official route which I highly encourage following. It'll be a lot busier, but it takes you through some cool scenery, scenic towns, and other cool stuff to stop and look at (like car museums and such). following the route also gives the added bonus of people parked out with lawn chairs watching the show and kids begging for burnouts and it being semi-condoned. You don't have to follow the route so long as you arrive at the venue of the day in time to stamp your ticket (it was on your honor this year). Most gas stations turn into impromptu car shows, as do the restaurants along the route and cities, all of which could be considered "stops". So I guess it depends what you mean by stops. You can either choose to do the Long hauler were you'll go to every city, a multi day pass where you can go to multiple cities, or a single day. So your "stops" are dependent on what you choose to experience.

3 of the venues this year either had autocross or drag racing setup. Lessons I learned was don't be stingy when buying tickets. I bought the long hauler ticket and even though I read the website that said tickets to do 2 parade laps on the Atlanta motor speedway wouldn't be available at the venue I didn't believe them and opted not to buy the ticket only to realize when I got there - they didn't lie and I missed the opportunity to put my car on the track - don't cheap out like me.
