I have a small oil pan gasket leak.

I don't really feel like going through all of the hassle of fixing it if I can get away with it.

So, how strict is SIR about stuff like this? I wouldn't want to sneak through with anything that may cause an accident, but the leak is really minimal.

I've never been to the track before and would like to run up there and see how I do on one of the test and tune nights.

How are those heads working out?

You should really try to fix it. I had a pretty decent size leak after a cam swap on my old motor and fixed with a can of "The Right Stuff". It’s a liquid gasket and works really well. They sell it at auto parts stores and it’s in a black bottle.

The heads are working fine. I actually ended up just taking a dremel and grinding off and smoothing the rough spots! I have about 1000 miles on them or so, and no problems. I haven't been gentle on them either!

I do need to adjust one or two of the rocker arms on the side that had the damage, but I'm sure it's not anything to do with the damage that had been done.

I figured it was worth a shot. Worse case scenario it would cost me an extra set of valve covers and the cost of a dremel.

I don't like using those additives, I'm always afraid they're gonna clog something up. The oil pan is a real PIA to get to.......I'd almost prefer a rear-main.

They are somewhat strict depending on which inspector you are "lucky" enough to get. A few months back I tried to run my girlfriends car, and I had the plastic oil pressure line running to the back of the block, inspector amazingly spotted it and immediately failed my car because it had a slight amount of oil film around the fitting!!!!! I was ****ing pissed. I've ran so many cars at the track that had the nylon oil pressure line and they have never caught it before. So it just all depends on who you get.

they made my dad replace his plastic oil line with a metal one to pass...just depends on who you get:lala:

Michael got to run that same day and he also had a nylon oil pressure line, you got royaly screwed.

depends ont he person you get, but I suggest you fix it.

go w/ that one-piece fel-pro pan gasket when you get around to fixing it. Good luck at SIR and fixing it.

Those are nice, and that's what I'll be using. I just am not looking forward to crawling around on the ground underneath this thing.

Guess that's what I'll do though. I won't have time for a couple of weeks though. Oh well.

if you leave the car running in the same spot for about 5 minutes with out it leaving a drop of oil on the ground the it should be fine. other wise you will not get through tech.

Guess my VW won't be going to the track soon, since it has that small leak.

i think that your small leak should be ok. as long as you still have some oil in the pan you should be ok

I don't want to come off as a dick, but no oil leak should be allowed at any track. Oil is a very dangerous thing for people doing 120mph and more on a strip. If you know you have a leak, you really should not race it, becasue with all that extra pressure and abuse, it may blow out the gasket a bit more, and leave a small slick for the unfortuneate person to fallow. Please fix it first. Better safe then sorry.

I drove 5+ miles last weekend with 1 valve cover, leaving a trail of oil across east Tucson.

i totally agree with cruzin kaz. how would u like it if some one leaked some oil on the track and then u were up next to race and tear your car up cuz somebody thought it was ok to have a little leak.
