Would like to try this myself to replace the egr valve. Would anyone with some experience be able to give me and hand? Refreshments are on me! (Assuming you are of proper age.) I have a nice clean garage to work out of. Let me know if anyone can help.

Is that so far to travel for your favorite brew???? What with the 101 and all.
Actually we will be neibors in a bout a month and a half. I am moving out to 119th Ave. and Van Buren last week of Aug.
Then meaning when I move or in the next few days?
I will probably have it done by then even if I have to pay for it. I was hoping to sell the Trans Am for extra down payment money.

I have no idea when you posted this or how I missed it, but, I've done my plenum plenty of times and it's real easy!
Don't pay someone to do this. PM with your location and we'll try and work out a time to get together.

I've had my plenum off in 10 minutes when using an air ratchet. Piece o cake.
But I couldn't get the EGR loose... so I just disabled it.

now is all u need is the plenum removed?? cause last i checked.. all u have to do is take off the bolts that hold the runners on.. and well.. its off. takes like 30 mins... max.. icant count the # if times i had to take my tpi off my old 305.
I guess taking it off really isn't the problem. It's getting it back on and making sure it does not leak. That's the key.

umm. thast easy as well. jsut go to autozone/checker and get new gaskets. in all honesty.. its easy to do. jsut try not to take every hose off and if u do. make sure u hook the rights ones back up

i agree with aziroc, very simple job. i had never done anything to fj car, and few months back i took my whole intake off and put it back on. it's just a matter of the right tools. plenty of star wrenches. lol

aww yes. those damn star wrenches.. how i hated having to go and buy some cause i didn thave any
I think I have about three of those bits for the ratchet. One of them looks like a pretty good fit. Chris is gonna help me with it on Monday. I could hack my way through it I think. But for the first time it's nice to have some experience on hand.
And we will have a Heinie or two afterwards. For a job well done.

Took me a little over 3 weeks to get it dialed in. Gonna let me borrow your ride for 3 weeks? Originally posted by prOject-IrOc

dunno if i could part with it after its running again though...

Well Chris (cg91ta) come over to help me with the project. The removal went well (Chris did most of the work). The bolts for the EGR valve were in a difficult spot but we got them off.
First problem was Autozone gave me the wrong EGR valve. And ofcourse the did not have the right one in stock. Finally found one and Chris notice another problem which stopped us dead on the project. I did not realize that I have SLP runners on the T/A and I did not get SLP gaskets. I ordered standard gaskets from NAPA.
So I had to get the right gaskets from SLP online and they will be here on the 23rd.
I will take a pic and post the progeress so far.
Thanks again for all the help Chris.

And the wait for the gaskets continues. SLP is killin me!!!!

Well, to your dismay, all SLP will do is send you a set of stock gaskets. Well, when I bought my SLP runners all they shipped with was stock gaskets, that was a couple years back and I have since scrapped the SLP runners. Your best bet is to order a set of AZSM siamese gaskets and port match all your intake parts to match.
NOW you tell him..

Not sure if you have the gaskets or not, since today in the 23rd.
Have you tried AZ TPI? They usually have Superram gaskets in stock, so they probably have aftermarket runner gaskets too.
One more question, how did you know your EGR was bad?

The gaskets arrived today. Have not seen them. I am at work at the moment and will check them out when I get home.
Thanks for the tip on AZ TPI.
I knew the EGR was bad because I got a code for a partially clogged EGR valve. The other code I got was for the O2 sensor slow to send data, or something like that. The last shop I had it at for some other work told me about the codes. Sounded like an easy fix. However, it took almost 2 weeks for the gaskets and as far as the 02 sensor. Can't seem to budge it. How wrong I was.

AZ TPI is a rip off and the owner is a total jerk! IMO
Well the T/A is back on the road. Thanks to Chris. We finished it early this morning. Running pretty good.
All I need to do now is clear up a code 43 and she will be as good as new.
