timing help

timing help

I need some help timing my car. I have a stock LO3 and the timing is off. I have the equipment but have never timed a car and was wondering if anybody had any tips or recomandations.
Any help would be great. thanks

can't drive the car because it won't pass emissions just wondering if somebody can tell me how to adjust the timing.

First and formost you're going to need something to loosen the nut holding the distributor down. Not the distributor cap, the whole distributor.

Next hook your light up.

Next disconnect the timing advance wire near the heater box on the left side (as you face it) of the engine.

Start the car. Ignore the SES light. Using the light determine what the timing is set at. If it needs to be changed slowly turn the distibutor until it reads 6* BDC. Shut the car off. Tighten the nut. Start the car and make sure it didn't move.

Plug the wire back in and your done.

base timing on LO3 cars is 0*BDC for automatic tranny... is the timing different for 5-speed cars?

check the emissions sticker in the engine compartment for related information

the wire to disconnect will be a single wire (tan w/black stripe IIRC) with weather pack connectors
