92 RS Suggestions

Hey guys, i was just looking for some suggestions on mods for my 92 RS. Mostly mechanically but suggestions for anything are good. Right now i just have the stock 305 and tranny in it. Remember im going into college and am trying to keep things as cheap as possible, and still need to be able to drive it for everyday use. - Thx

Here are a couple pics i took of it.

Well the first mods are pretty easy and straight forward. An open element will help the engine breath better. A full exhaust mod will also help. Headers, cat and cat-back. You can check my sig for a suggestion.

Those are the first and easiest mods that most tackle first.

Changing to 3.23 or 3.42 gears will help. You will also have to change the speedo gears so the speedometer is correct.

Also suspension mods will make a big difference. Sub-frame connectors, sway bars and strut tower brace just to name a few.

Just tackle them one at a time and it will be done bofore you know it.

132k miles on it.....just started making a clicking noise....think it might be a lifter but i have no idea how to fix it if thats what it is....gonna pull off the valve covers n make sure nothings loose then see where to go from there.....im relatively new to modding/fixing cars as i am only a Senior in High school plus have only had 2 cars....a 94 taurus and my 92 camaro rs. I learn very quickly and can usually make my own repairs just by asking someone how it works or looking at a diagram, pretty adept to learning as i go, and thus why i am asking for suggestions.

I got the 5.0 TPI in mine :-)

Also i def. dont have the stock exhaust, not sure what it is though. Gonna have to take a closer look at it. My car was originally used by the state as an Anti Drug car in a program called "PACE" ... It still has "Public Awareness and Community Education" painted onto the bumper which ruins any badass look or style to the car itself....if anyone works in a paint shop nearby, know how much it would costs to get that touched up ?

hmm, I know no RS's came with TPI unless they were B4C's...

Have you ran your RPO codes? I'm kind of curious now, unless somebody swapped the TBI for TPI.

Just open your center console lid and there should be a sticker on there with a bunch of numbers and letters...look for the combo B4C...

thirdgen.org has a vin decoder and an rpo decoder, but I don't think either one is working yet.

You're POSITIVE its TPI and not TBI?

TPI looks like this:

TBI looks almost like an old school carb type setup...Has a throttle body located on top of a normal intake manifold with two injectors inside the throttle body.

If you're going back to the car, look for these RPO codes.

I'm not sure what those are.

Those aren't your RPO codes...RPO codes are 3 digits, numbers and letters.

This is bothering me, something isn't right here.

hmmm i can come up with one way all this mix up happened.. It was a z28, someone messed up the ground effects and found RS ground effects and put them on.. so you have a z28 with RS badges

I live kind close to you also, Country Club and Guadalupe ish. The codes that they are talking about in my 91 were not in the center consoul they were in the rear hatch in the little cubby hole with the key lock. All the codes are 3 letter/numbers only nothing longer. This tells you engine, trans, rear end gears.. basically every package that is on your car. See if you cant find a sticker that looks like that in the back if it isnt uner the lid ( not sure since i have a poncho if its the same )

Ok i found the codes in the trunk like u said...and yes there is a B4C on there....

*Edit - B2L, the code for the 350ci z28 engine is on there....someone must have messed up the ground work and put an RS body kit on....nice to know that i do have the 5.7 instead of 5.0 though

Yeah I live on Gemini which is right off of Julie (east side of McClintock). I've seen your car a lot, just never had the chance to pull up to ya and chat about cars. Sounds like a cool ride though, we should race em some time

So you snagged yourself a B4C. Nice find. I think there were 592 of them made in 1992.

Hold on to that car, thats one of the more rare thirdgens out there.

Yeah a State of Az auction...my dad goes to at least 2 a month just to look for stuff for his business.....4500 was well worth it imo...did i mention it came with custom speakers built onto the door panels and 3 10's built into the back? All powered by a GTX Amp. Welllll worth it *grin*

Holy crap dude! I was talking with David (Schwarz) and he was telling me about your car, and I THOUGHT I had seen it, but it was a different thirdgen with a different flame job, LOL! You DO live right by me (Tony is a tad closer, but I could walk to your house in 5 minutes) so we most defnitly need to meet up. I want to see this beast!! What are you doing later today?
