Say goodbye Camaropimp

Well, he is going to Phoenix end of this week to take some tests. If he passes he will be on his way to becoming a U.S. Marine!!! I am extremely happy and proud. He will be leaving sometime in November at this point. Going to San Diego for training. Signing up as Infantry. Wants to fight in Iraq. I am nervous about that but he is joining a branch of the military where he will have the best training possible (no offense to other branches). From his training, he will be seeking to join Recon and then after two years he will hopefully be in Force recon. It's the Marine version of Delta Force etc...

Good luck man! My best friend just finished his 4 years in the Marine Corps in July, and it was one heck of a trip. He went to Iraq twice, and even has the really cool story now that the chain that was used to pull down the statue of Sadaam near the end of the main war came off HIS TRUCK! Word of advice though, if they give you the option of going to Twenty-Nine Palms, CA.....run the other direction!!

What the hell is twenty nine palms? LOL...All I know at this point is that he is going to San Diego Camp Peddelton. After his 3 month training he has 10 days leave and then back for two more months of training. I feel good about it all. I know he will do well cuz he likes to be doing something besides sitting around. He likes action sports. He is a certified lifeguard, EMT, Fireman and former amateur bodybuilder with several first place wins. He will fit right in with the marines. Both the mental and physical training should be easier for him than the average joe.

Thats funny...

He graduated Yavapai college to be a fireman and the only two branches that have them are the Air Force and the Navy. He didn't want to be on a ship so the Navy was out. The Air Force was out because the recruiter told him a bunch of crap and made promises I knew they couldnt keep cuz they did it to me so he was turned off by them. Went to the Marine recruiter and the guy didnt pressure him or lie to him or make empty promises. In fact it was just the opposite. Besides, he will fit right in with the Marines. I know he made the right choice. He has been busy as of late but I will have him log in and say goodbye soon.

Ah, tell him to join the Air Force. Quailty of life is TOP NOTCH, and he can still do special forces sort of training. In the AF, we have Pararescue and Tactical Police, and those are some BAD dudes! The training is some of the toughest in the military. Right up there with Navy SEAL's and the Army's Special Forces. Did I mention that the quailty of life is the best out of all branches?

Tell him to at least talk to the Air Force guys. He will still go to Iraq and such, but will at least have AC while there. Let him know that he can still get out of the USMC up until he takes the oath for the second time at MEPS.

I thought the 21 age requirement was a federal thing, meaning anywhere in the US you have to be 21 to by booze.
But, yeah, when you turn 18 you can vote and die for America, but in the eyes of Bank One Ballpark, you're a "child." WTF?

yes its a federal law...but the military can and does turn and twist alot of the laws....plus basically some fed laws do not have any jurisdiction on military posts, bases, etc. Ft Bliss has a post policy that as long as you have a valid military id and are 18 then you can drink on post so far as you stay and post and do not do anything dumb. this is done to keep soldiers from venturing the dangerous streets of Juarez, MX......

Cool, I'll be sure and let him know. He came home today from his two days of testing in Phoenix. I was at work so I haven't seen him just talked to him by cell. He passed all his tests and is leaving for boot camp Nov. 14th....

Calm down schwarzy...calm down LOL. I see that. He isn't going to be doing any visiting for awhile. Three months of boot camp and then 10 days leave. I am sure he will come here for that. Then it's back again to Pendelton for two more months of infantry training. After that I dont know.

The Corps training is tough and most of it will be fun, but it's way different than an 8-5 job doing menial stuff. He'll learn more about discipline, teamwork and physical endurance in a few months than most ever will, and when he comes back to visit it will be evident that he's a new man.

They don't go to Camp Pendleton. That is is North in Oceanside, CA. A good 40 min from San Diego. The Marines Basic Training happens right here in Point Loma. Right next to Naval Station San Diego. They will spend 12 weeks here, until they graduate, and then be shipped off to their first duty station (where ever that might end up). I'm prior Air Force (no offence taken bout your "best training" comment), and every one of my friends are still in, or were miliatary. I also have 2 cousins stationed at Camp pendalton. I actually spend one weekend a month up there using my cousins garage, or the auto hobby shop to work on my car. Back to point.... His mental strength will not matter. The whole point of basic is to basically "brainwash" you into a new person. And for them to do that, they need to eliminate any notiones in your head that "you" think you know what's going on. Just my 2 cents... Good Luck. Huah

Joe

I just want to say thanks to everyone for wishing me goodluck on my newest life adventure. In just under a month now I will leave and start one of the most toughest and challenging tasks of my life. It will be rough but fun. Also as a correction, basic training is 13 weeks not 12. Then I have a 10 day leave, next I go to Camp Peddleton for 2 more months of infantry training. Then I get shipped out to a base unless they base me at Peddleton. It was a pleasure talking to you all while I was here; and when we had the meet down in Phoenix. I say once again Thanks and Goodbye!

Thats so nice Bruce, except the car was wrecked remember? I don't think it will be raced for awhile if at all. In fatc he is selling for 3K or best offer right now because I decided not to buy it. All it needs is a new axle, axle seal, lower control arm and a front a-arm. About 500 in parts I believe. Nice car to have for the money.
