I am looking for a T56 transmission / conversion for a 82-90 GTA Transam and also a heavy duty racing clutch...

Re: Transmission

Don't expect much help with a 3rd gen from AZFBA either. If it isn't a LS1 4th gen, you won't get much response at all on that board.

If you need a stronger auto to replace the one you have, check places like Pro-Built or ArtCarr. Either of those have 700R4 models guaranteed to 675hp and higher. I think one of the ArtCarr models is rated to 800.

If it's already a manual, I suspect you won't have much trouble installing the transmission once you find one since the basic setup is already there unlike a conversion from auto to manual. Depending on where you're at in, I would recommend Gearheadgarage as the shop to do the swap for you. He does a lot of driveline swaps and should be able to handle this with no problem.

Not really. AZFBA is almost dead now with only a few people left posting. Plus the only T56 units to be sold on there in the last year were the ones that people broke and decided to replace instead of rebuild. Essentially the core was for sale as rebuildable but not as a usable transmission.

The only real use that board might provide is the name of the sponsor that has a transmission shop or the link to GHG to have the install done after a transmission is acquired from other sources.

Re: Transmission

If you would liek to find a T56 fast and be able to have a good selection of them take a look at LS1tech.com and do a search in the for sale section. you should have no problem finding one.

Also as far as a clutch, Before i went with a TH400 I have put 621 RWHP to a Spec Stage 5 Iron Disk clutch racing every weekend for almost a solid year with no problems, i would reccommend the same clutch or a Textralia or even a Ram VDS. they will hold with no problem for you, also if you are using the LS1 hydrolics for the T56 then your pedal feel will not be comprised much at all. just be careful. Since the T56 trans does have paper blocker rings power shifting the trans will destroy it fast. Unless you plan to have it built with carbon blocker rings, steel forks and keys i would go fairly easy on the shifting. Take it from me.... i have been through 6 T56's in a year. i would also recommend a Pro 5.0 shifter (youd love it)
