How much

Just trying to get people's opinion about how much my camaro should go for. I have an 82 berlinetta that I am trying to sell locally, but with very few hits. It is a 305 auto with a decent body (minor dings) decent paint (glossy), only one small tear in the drivers seat (usual spot), of course the A/C doesn't work. P/W, P/L, and P/DS. I am only asking 1500, but I have only had one person come look at it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: How much

i dont personally consider the 82 berlinetta one of the better looking camaros, and depending on mileage you probably not going to get the 1500

Re: How much

Yes, but there are a couple in town that need a lot of work or don't even run for 800-1000. I'll have the air fixed this weekend, so maybe I will get some more hits then.

Your car looks rough. The berlinettas were also not known for performance, and a lot of people don't like the way they look. (I agree, these cars look naked without the GFX) that combined with the non-functioning A/C and less than stellar appearance, would make this car go for less than you're asking. There's a guy with a 1992 RS Vert that's only asking 2300. And his A/C works.

Re: How much

I guess I never thought about it being a plain jane, but my neighbor has an 89 RS that has a traaaaashed engine but has the spoiler and GFX, do you think it would be worth my trouble to swap them this weekend? It's the same color and stuff. Plus would it all fit?

Re: How much

It's a serious job. And it'd eliminate the whole Berlinetta aspect. Some people do like them. But you have to pull the nose, drill holes in the fenders for the kick panels, maybe change out the rear bumper cover. It's a lot of work, and in the long run, will probably cost you more money fixing the skeletons you'll dig out of the closet than you'll make by doing it. I'd try adding an OBO to the add. Most people will try to lowball you, but maybe someone would give you a close number.

Don't drop your price ! Hold out as long as you can ! If your set on selling it then spend the afternoon cleaning it as best as you can. Detail the inside / outside really nice and don't drop on the price yet. Leave the car as is - it's a complete / unmolested / driving car right now..... don't look for trouble !

I just did a 200 mile search on auto trader com and the lowest priced ( RUNNING ) camaro to be returned on the search was a V8 86 with T- tops for $1700. ( no mileage listed ) That's out of 282 cars returned in the search.

Your car is now officially an Antique because it's 25 years old. It's true that "there's an A** for every seat" - but regardless of the A** - they will be sitting in an Antique car. I don't know about other states, but here in Rhode Island an "Antique" car doesn't have to be tested for emissions,..... just a safety inspection. That benefit alone is worth $$ to guys from this part of the country !

Hold firm on your price, add "OBO" and write "Antique" in big letters to the window sticker !!!

Re: How much

I thought it was post '76 gets checked. Either way, historic or not, it gets checked. It does qualify for our historic plates program, which means you can get historic insurance, which is MUCH less, but requires less than x amount of miles driven on the car annually. If they catch you driving more, they can charge a greater premium.

Re: How much

I'm located in Rhode Island,....... The laws here change often and I know that insurance companies offer certain coverages for cars that are "limited use". I think that coverage can begin when the car is 20 Y/O.

Here's the way Rhode Island is set-up.

Age: Motor vehicles 25 years old or older must undergo inspection for safety and emissions. However, these vehicles will not be failed if they do not pass emissions standards.

Antique cars: Vehicles registered as antiques with antique license plates are exempt from safety and emissions testing. However, some antique registered vehicles may be presented for safety inspection under state law that allows the unlimited use of such a vehicle if it passes inspection.
We don't need a title for a car and the state will not issue them for cars over 10 YO. All ye need to reg a 10 YO car is a bill of sale and the last owners reg papers. The Problem we have here in RI is that the vehicle must pass inspection 30 days after registration - Or they pull the registration. ( Makes it tough to buy a project car ! )

At least they are giving us a break on the older cars....... soon, I will no longer need to buy state stickers on the black market just to drive my 84 Berlinetta around !!! I've been dodging that law for over 9 years with that car !

P.S. If your car is in fact and "antque" at 25 years old than check your local laws; no Emissions test is a BIG deal to the kind of buyer your looking for !!

Re: How much

Well, I fixed the A/C now, and it blows cold, so that should help now, and I lowered the price because my wife needs dental work. Got more hits, but mostly just tire kickers or people that don't show up. The car was registered until march 07, so it should pass emissions without a problem. I hate emissions, because everyone but me has a way around them. The only legal way around emissions is to register as an antique and have the insurance, in Arizona anyway, I checked.

Re: How much

Its statewide now. If your car is 15 years old or older and carries classic/antique insurance, you are exempt from emissions. Check it out. How do you think Im running around with 11 second small block/stock head street cars?

Thats fine, I'm just saying that Yavapai county has never had emissions testing that I know of. We are 5K feet above sea level
