Re: CRUISE ON CENTRAL!!!

unfortunately, due to the guy who owned the car before me, i am unable to have a functional cd player at the moment. he decided to pull out all the stock wires. i believe i have it in right, but no speaker sounds. i'm thinking the deck might be blown. gonna have the autozone guy test it.

so, thats a negative on the country music. however, if i had a functional cd player, i would have probably been blasting crue or judas priest.

anyone have a deck for sale?

Re: CRUISE ON CENTRAL!!!

You might not need a new deck... You are VERY lucky! I happen to be an auto electrician and can look at it for you. Dont let the autozone guys touch it! ("Er....Hmmmm...So if i put the red, black and yellow wires together....") Bad news! What part of the valley are you in?

Re: CRUISE ON CENTRAL!!!

the autozone guy knows a car electric guy, and had mentioned he was getting a new free deck, and i said i would buy his old one. i told him my woes, and he said he can get his buddy to test the deck.

im at 16th street and northern. the car doesnt move at the moment (emissions failures and previous owner cashed all the temp permits for this year.)

Re: CRUISE ON CENTRAL!!!

when i took it in tuesday, i drove from the shop getting a new catalyctic, and emissions i failed evap (because they dont know what a vapor canister is supposed to look like), failed the pressure test, and blew a 2.64 of NOX (2.50 is applicable standard)

then i took it to the waiver station, and they tested it again, failed pressure test, blew a 2.30 in hydrocarbons (1.6 is applicable standard, and it blew a 1.08 an hour earlier), and failed nox again with a 2.73. they passed my evap after they sent me on a wild goose chase for a hose fitting that doesnt exist.

yep.

been working on my caddy last 2 days, VATS went out. couldnt get to work yesterday, because phone is broken, and got canned. thank you VATS.

MAN! Sounds like a bad day! As long as your car passes the visual and cap and tank pass the pressure test, then the rubbing alcohol will take care of the rest... Er...Ah... I mean "I heard" that it would work....Ah...Yeah...

It is a different tranny. The input shaft is different. It can be changed, but you are better off getting a LS-1 tranny and selling your LT-1 tranny.

I can get an F-body LS-1 for around $1900.oo with tranny, Harness, all access and ecm.

I gotta get rid of them sooner than that. What springs are you looking for? I have a full set of IROC springs with 51,000 miles on them.

You can buy new factory replacement Moog springs at OReilly's for less than $200 for all 4 corners. The fun is the spring compressor to get them installed....

Just remember, if your springs need replaced, the shocks are probably done too. The rears are fairly cheap. The fronts are not.

Mainly finding a spring compressor. Most parts stores will try to rent you the one for a coilover setup which will not work on a thirdgen. The compressor you need has to insert into the inside of the front springs through the bottom of the control arm and then tighten to hold the spring from popping out. then you reverse the process to put the new one in. There are ways to do it without a compressor but the tool will definitely make putting the new springs in a lot easier. So will installing a Eibach ProKit which lowers the car by using a shorter spring.

The rear springs are easy. They just drop out when you lower the rear axle. Getting the new ones in usually requires 2 people to hold them while you raise the axle back up and rebolt the shocks but it isn't hard work.

And if you're doing the springs you probably want to track down replacement spring isolators at the same time. At least none of my front ones were reusable on the spring swaps.

Re: CRUISE ON CENTRAL!!!

You arent kidding, Tom! They are a pain to get in. I had to do it the hard way, but all my cars have prokit springs! (And it still wasnt easy!) I couldnt find a compressor to rent that would work with it at all. I think he's trying to return it to stock ride height.

I finally broke down and bought the correct compressor. I tend to run ProKit springs up front and stock in the rear to keep the car level after doing massive engine mods. Never had a problem getting the ProKit springs in and out but stock is scary to work with without a compressor.

If you can wait about a month to pick it up. I'm out of town for a couple of weeks. You can rent them at Autozone though. You just have to make sure they rent you the correct one.

Now why would I want to go and mess with a relatively low mileage engine that has 0 issues and doesn't leak anything? The LS might make more power and be lighter but there isn't any reason to tear into the vert for an engine swap. Especially when it's a 1 of 1294 ever made type of car.

The RS is due for another round of upgrades... battery relocation to the rear, different surge valve for the blower, new couplers on the intercooler piping, better tires, maybe a stereo system, and better front brakes. Then I'll see if I can get some consistency out of the runs. Until then, it's fun to scare the ricers with it just by driving by

Re: CRUISE ON CENTRAL!!!

You do have a good point about the vert! It is nice to have a stock car to drive around! (Less issues, thats for sure!)

That IS one MEAN sounding car! Any chance you will have it streetable in time for the central cruise? Let me know if you need any rotors for those brakes. Got some Vette rotors in stock. as well as some Z-06 wheels (Polished C-5 spokes).

DRIVE2FAST: you need to tell us more about your project. I know it's in pieces, but why?

Re: CRUISE ON CENTRAL!!!

I BOUGHT IT NOT RUNNING. FUEL PUMP / SENDER / TANK WERE A MESS. I HAVE REPLACED TANK/PUMP/SENDER AT THIS POINT. I RE-SEALED THE B/W 2.77 REAR END AND THAT IS NOW INSTALLED. IN THE PROCESS OF REBUILDING ALL 4 BRAKE CALIPERS. REAR ROTORS TURNED. REPLACED FRONTS WITH JEGS DRILLED ROTORS. JUST FINISHED CUTTING SPRINGS FOR APPROX 2.5" DROP. SUSPENSION IS ALL BAK 2GETHER. IM KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED THE L98 AND 700R4 ARE OK........

Re: CRUISE ON CENTRAL!!!

Oh, and I should have my LS7 RS ready for the next cruise! Might even be packing a Magnussen (SP) supercharger if I play my cards right!
