Does anyone have an extra known good prom and computer? I’ve done a pile of diagnostic and have had two mechanics that are familiar with the system suggest that it’s time to try swapping in these parts to see if it fixes my issue. I’m in Ahwatukee. Phoenix south off i10 and chandler blvd. thanks. 1988 305 tpi with manual transmission. Computer 16198259.

It came with a hypertech 128852. I don’t know what it would have come with. Thanks. I hate throwing parts at a car and heard the old techs kept a few of these parts around for verification before purchasing the defective part. I’m not looking for any freebies, just hoping to pinpoint my cars challenge.

No codes. It had run great. Took car on 1700 mile trip and developed two problems. Random Ignition drop that was solved with ignition module and a failure to idle. I have not been able to solve failure to idle. Runs fine with est disconnected although with no advance of course. Iac has been replaced and always works fine when closing it for diagnostic. Tps has been verified, maf cleaned. Base idle set. When car is started it goes through it’s regular cycle and when it settled into normal idle it will drop and nearly die before car revs to catch itself. It will do this two or three times before it does die. One time after three drops the car went to a high idle and then settled into a great idle. I discovered at that point a code 42. It appears the car took the est out of play by itself After shutting off car and restarting it the next day the light was no longer on and est was active. I ran through the schematic for testing out code 42 and it came back all systems proper. Above idle the car runs fantastic.

 

Wow, that is hard to say if it’s a ecm not controlling the iac properly or memcal.
i have a anpj 3:45 rear end ratio , it will work fine with other rear end ratios as well .

 

I got the car running correctly. I replaced the distributor and the problem went away. Second distributor. I’d replaced it a year ago with a cheap one.
