[N3G] New Computer Ordered

Well, I ordered my new computer from Dell (don't even start with the slogan ). It should be here "On or before Nov. 1st 2002", so much for 4-5 days for delivery. Things to note are:
1.80GHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor :hail:
40GB Hard Drive
256MB Memory
17" Monitor :lala:
40x-CDW
56K Modem
Ethernet Card (will this work for my DSL? I can always install my current one)
and some other mumbo-jumbo, like Windows XP and WordPerfect pack. Total cost, including shipping (no tax ) ... $780. So I should be back in action (not) soon (enough).

I so love the feeling of a new computer! BUT, I must say this. 1.8ghz is a little slow compared to the top of the line processors but I'm sure it'll suffice. First computer mod should be an upgraded GFX card. Those help SO much.

Heh, if I were to list my computer mods this page would be a few pages longer. ^_^ http://members.telocity.com/wjrneo2/f1pc.htm

Yeah, I know it's not a top of the line model, but it is a Blown/Heads/Cam/Nitroused computer compared to the one that let go recently. Just for comparison (my old system):
350GHz Intel Pentium 2 Processor
10GB Hard Drive
125MB Memory
15" Monitor
8x-CD-Rom
Network Card (for DSL)

With computers, I'll stick with the lower end stuff. Especially since I don't know anything about "mod'ing" these things. I'll leave that to Kevin L. (and all the computer gurus)

Congrats George. I hope you enjoy it. I think it is a good idea to buy something near the middle to bottom of the line, you need to hold back some money for speed parts!

Yes your new network card will work fine with the DSL, you'll just have to set it up the same.

Your old computer is similar to mine! Maybe my dad wants to upgrade. Probably not tho.

Boo intel. AMD > intel.

Besides that, congrats. Getting a new computer is always fun. That cd burners should be nice too. You'll see a huge gain in performance, should be nice!

You shouldn't have to worry much about configuring anything, XP will take care of that.

Russ, that was the main point ... save cash on the computer, spend more on the Z28.

Nigel,

Kevin, we'll talk (I do plan on selling the extras).

Rezinn, I've always had good luck with Pentiums, no need to change. CD burner is gonna be nice. :lala:

You don't have a real computer until it has gauges!
(dont ask why a sensor isnt on the cpu yet)

now I just need a tach!

http://www.xoxide.com/pctachometer1.html
(kidding about the tach though)

Nice computer by the way, dell is a lot better than compaq; hp; nec etc. Much easier to work on/upgrade.

Intel vs AMD is like camaro vs firebird, I just gotta love both! (but amd is winning big time with their deep price cuts.)

Heh, my monster. Instead of sleek lines, and compact designs I have "Boxy and roomy." One thing I can't fault my case for is the room I have. I have:

6 external 5.25" bays
2 external 3.5" bays
6 internal 3.5"bays
and the motherboard side.

The whole case is constructed out of 2mm steel. Which means its heavy, and nearly indestructable.

The reason I choose it was b/c i could use my 256 and 128 pc100 with it and did not have to buy new memory, If any one local wants to buy a pc100 128mb chip I have one i will sale cheap. I also have 2 monitors f/s also. and some other computer parts i for get what I got, every thing works and can be tested before you buy.

you probably need

a better motherboard.. find out what board you can get that is like a 1ghz like I did and use the same memory and every thing else.. I think the Epox board and the cpu was under 200 bucks. and i bought a 64 graphics card I think or 32 for the monitor plug in.
