I saw an early 4th gen Camaro today with damage to the driver's door. I didn't know that the doors on a 4th gen are plastic. Are the fenders also plastic?

IIRC, the doors and front fenders are "composite". The rear quarter panels and roof B pillar are steel.

On the subject of plastic cars, I saw an interesting ad for GE last night promoting a project they are trying to develop. Basically the ad states that they are working on plastic bodies for cars that are completely impregnated with the body color. The concept is that having a car painted would become a thing of the past. They put a fun twist on it by showing a group of factory "painting robots" sitting around on the job with nothing to do.

The spot ended with an annoucement coming over the PA system instructing all painting robots to report to the crash test area.

lol plastics safer and lighter thou thats the only reason to switch like that physics guys force felt by the car can be lowerd if the force takin by the door was over a greater period of time thats why when new cars get into recs everythign but the inside of the car will usually be totaled its for protection i dont know why people are so upset with plastic (but on another note i love the fact a that my car is metal )

Chris saw something about a film or type of tape to replace paint, but at this time is only adheres to plastic.
