My new Ride

I may finally get to drive my '87 El Camino, it's been a long time but little by little it's coming together.

looks good.

how long until the TPI is in?

I have some 16x8 IROCS (need to be re-powdercoated) that maybe we can barter with that would look good on there.

I was hoping to get it in this weekend...but that may not happen

[definately like the '80's more than the '60's]
[and this is the last model they built]

Nope, it's more like a 5th gen. The El Camino first appeared in '59 based on the Impala. It even retained the Impala's fins. Starting in the early 60's it was then based on the Chevelle and took on a new body style. It changed again in the late 60's (68 to be exact) and ran that body style till 72. 73 to 77 saw the next body style. Then in 78 the final body style came in and ran till the El Camino's demise in 87.

I still wish I had my 84. That was a clean car.

My friend Eddie had an el camino..check out this old pic. It was originally a big block I believe, but had been swapped out for a 350. When he got it he ran something like 15.4 at the track, but at the end of this summer I believe it was doing 13.8s. Whose car is that in the background?

Very clean '72 El Camino. It does appear it had a big block at one time based on it having the functional cowl hood. IIRC, only the big block cars got the "flapper" in the cowl from the factory.

I'd still love to add a '70 454 SS El Camino to my garage someday.

Looks good Don!

The TPI should draw a good crowd and black is always cool.

Hope to see you soon.

I good friend in High School (yes! we were in High School!) had a very clean '70 454 SS El Camino 4 speed. That car was crazy fast! I agree, I'd love one myself

Your kidding me! It looks black to me!

That's definately a sign of old age. So were is the Geryatric (sp?)racing board?

65 and Social Security is last thing I have to look forward to.

Awesome. I love el caminos, but one that gets good gas mileage and isn't a slug out of the hole would be fun
