Problem need some help...

Well went to park the bird on the driveway last night and I put it into park. Let go of the brake and the car rolls back. Thought this is wierd tried putting it in park again still rolls. Park is like neutral right now The shifter seems real loose in park. Like when I take it out of park position it comes out real quick. The rest of the gears work fine and when you shift over to them you can feel the tranny reacting but with park there is nothing. The only thing that clicks is the shifter lock clicking into place. What is wrong here? I need some help and guidance here. I need park to work.

I'm not all that familier with transmissions, but I think the lock up in park is a pin that locks up the trans. If it isn't working, the pin broke. Don would know a lot more than me, but I think you need a trans rebuild to fix it. I'm not sure if it hurts anything to operate the tranny without it. Why not just use your parking brake?

Sound like your shift linkage is coming apart. There is a sleeve the cable slides through which is attached to a bracket on the pan. If the sleeve breaks it will cause the shifter to slide back and forth without shifting.

Yes that's exactly what happened. I got the car on the lift today and sure enough the sleeve broke and caused the cable to bind up as well. I manually shifted the car into park and park worked fine. Seems the car is going into reverse right now instead of park. So off to get a new cable and sleeve. Thanks for the help guys. I am just relieved it wasn't the pin in the tranny.

O really that would be great. Maybe I can pick it up this Saturday if you are free and we can do the injector swap. Yea the cable and sleeve is way gone on my car. Looks like someone tried to fix it before too but this time it really broke So I fixed the e-brake so I can park now until I can get a cable put it
