Smog check question...

I am moving to the Los Angeles area in a few months. I am bringing along the "FORMUL8-mobile" and have some questions about the smog check.

Please see my mods and let me know if anything would make the car fail. It passes IL emissions with flying colors, but I can only imagine how strict CA's standards are.

The mods on my car are listed here: www.cardomain.com/id/formul8

Also, how much are personalized plates?

Thanks,
Dylan

Oh my gosh, the infamous formul8 is coming to SoCal! Welcome to the neighborhood.

Basically, the smog checks work fairly easily. You have to have all your smog equipment hooked up and functioning, including AIR, EGR, catalytic converters, smog pump, etc, and your aftermarket parts have to be "50-state legal". You can hide some stuff but everything visible has to be smog legal.

Check out CA's DMV page at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/ and click the link on the left about "Bringing a car into CA" for more details.

I spent the last week in LA and I love it!

The car has:

-3" single CATCO converter
-SLP 1 3/4" headers w/AIR tubes
-smog pump and all connections
-EGR still hooked up
-Stock chip

I also have a '99 Audi A4 as a daily driver, but I am going to try and sell it before coming out.

If your experience with Catco is anything like mine, youmay need to replace it. The one I had installed on a car lasted less than 1 week. The mods I read about on your web site appear to be no problem as long as all of the smog pieces are there.

Don't worry... you'll learn to hate it soon enough. It really sucks when it's 80 degrees in January.
