TIG Welding?

Anybody know of a shop in the Fresno/Visalia area that has a lift and an experience TIG welder? I had my subframe connectors installed by some joker that did a terrible job and I want the rest of it done right. Thanks for you help and suggestions in advance.

I don't know much about shops in the Fresno area, but you might want to put this post on the West Coast Board as well. Fresno is at the very Northern end of what would be considered So. Cal. so there are a few guys from that area that post on the West Coast Board who don't visit this board.

What you really want is a Mig welder. aka wire feed.

Dyno Don, I think I know what I want and I want my subs TIGed in, not MIG welded. Thanks for letting me know what I want anyway. Thanks for the idea, Russ. I'll try posting on the West Coast Board too.

Theres a muffler shop in Clovis, I dont remember the name offhand. Its on Clovis Avenue just north of Shaw (actually just north of Barstow would be more accurate). Not sure if he has TIG, but at least the guy can weld. Not real close to Lemoore either, but if you feel like driving...

why would you want them to use a TIG welder?? Tig is not nearly as strong...TIG is for my smaller...thinner metals. I've even welded razor blades with a tig. Is it even possible to weld sfc's in with a TIG welder?? If you get it done...let me know...because I've never herad of anything like that.

ok lets see first off its slag and thats arc or sometimes mig if u dont use gas and u use flux cored wire... mig just stands for metal inert gas tig stands for tungsten inert gas is primarly used for aluminum and exotic metals and is more acurate then mig and is slower but mig also has its advantages... for ur job i would listen to don becuase insurance places make shops mig weld any frame or structural repair... not sure if they still do this... but really it all comes down to what u want to do hope that helped

yes..you can weld thicker metals with a TIG. But...I'm just not sure if I would trust using a tig welder for any kind of structural frame. I'm not tyring to argue or anything....but arc and mig would be the only things that I would use on any frame.

i agree that arc or mig would be stronger as well but i belive you could do ur frame in tig... i doubt i would ever do it becuase like u said its not as strong but its strong enough if u do it right..... it would just be a pain and more work then its worth but when its all done it would look prity

For a good looking weld

Tig is not nearly as strong...
Wrong..Tig will produce a cleaner, stronger and more pure weld.

TIG is for my smaller...thinner metals. I've even welded razor blades with a tig.
Tig has way more control so you can do thin ( low heat ) work or very thick work if you have the proper unit. My shop unit is a Miller 350LX ( link http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...rowave_350_lx/ ) and has no problem with 1/2 inch plate and if I need to go thicker My home unit is a 500 amp Miller.

Is it even possible to weld sfc's in with a TIG welder??
No problem, Its the best way to do it

If you get it done...let me know...because I've never herad of anything like that.
If you run in any NHRA pro class its the only approved weld.

Jerry

JERRYWHO already said it but all moly cages are TIG welded... hell chromoly everything is TIGged.....

that said...... TIG is way overkill for welding mild steel SFCs to your steel floorboard. you wont have any additional strength IN THIS CASE compared to MIG welding it...

it should look nicer though.

anything you can mig, you can tig.... but not the other way around.

Jerrywho, thanks for your support and you are RIGHT on all accounts. Thing is, the ONLY thing I asked for is the location of a shop with a lift and a guy that can weld TIG. Instead what I got was a bunch of opinions about why MIG is better than TIG and what am I thinking for wanting TIG. I was just asking for your help guys and nobody helped me. Nevermind.

Hey were not giving you a hard time on wanting Tig, it's for your own purpose, and your question was answered already we are a further Southern cal area than Fresno etc. So we can't help you much there. Like you said before you know what you want and that is cool..

I already told you one place to try.

Try calling Veco Technologies in Fresno. He has a TIG, but I seriously doubt he would work on your car. Maybe he'll tell you a guy who will do it.

No offense guys, but my attitude? I asked for help and nobody helped me. Madmax, you suggested a guy and then said he probably wouldn't do it. I'm sorry if I offended you all somehow, but I really can't imagine how.

2 different people. Veco is not in Clovis. Might I suggest calling the 2 different guys? There is no possible way it can hurt.
