I called, and there is no direct line to the u pick yard, so they don't know. I live around 4 hours away and do not want to drive 8 hours round trip to find out they don't have anything. SO, has anyone been there???

I dont live far from U-Pick Parts. Its in Sun Valley not Hollywood. Its pretty much hit or miss. I would not drive all the way down here to go to that yard unless you planned to make it an all day event and visit several yards.Unfortunatly most everything is pretty picked over so thats why I say hit or miss. Are there some good yards further north? I am new to the central coast and have found nothing decent. I would rather get some advice here than wasting an afternoon calling yards.

As I said I dont live very far from that yard,so I have no idea whats in any other direction. There were times that I went there and found exactly what I was looking for,and I have gone there, and thought well its only $2. Pick A Part is a short distance from there but again its hit or miss. You might plan on staying overnight so you could go to other yards that someone else may suggest.

Last month I hit 6 yards in OC/LA in one day, and I pretty much found all the parts I was looking for. So as was mentioned, if you make it an all day thing, you'll probably go home with SOMETHING.

I wonder if there's a way to find out what new cars will be put out in the PAP yards? Is there a phone number you can call to get info when they'll put out the new vehicles into the yard? I know they do it at certain times of the month.
Everytime I go to a Pick-a-Part, most of the newly arrived junkers have been picked over the day after the cars are put out. Somebody at these yards must be tipping off the local shop mechanics/hacks when the new cars are coming in.
I remember being at the Ontario yard one time when they were putting out some new cars just before closing. The next day when I arrived late in the afternoon, all of the cars that were placed there the day before were completely stripped including the engines. This was on a normal week day as well with no 1/2 price off mid-week specials either.
Something sure sounds fishy at the PAP yards around here. The people who work there MUST be tipping off the local shops/mechanics when a particular car is coming in or something..

Thats not the only problem. Even if the car has the parts pulled, there are still many things that one can use.Unfortunatly I have seen people smash/break/pry/tear anything in the way of what ever it was they were after. And of course there is just the destruction for the hell of it.I can tell you this .... At the U-Pick Parts that was the start of this thread If you speak Spanish .... Your in. Unfortunatly I dont so.... When I go there I am at a distinct disadvantage. I did seem to make friends with one of the guys at the window where you pay. He seemd to like the fact that I was not intimidated buy the locals.I know he was not charging me for some of the stuff I got.

Lang,
What do you mean that "you're in" if you speak Spanish? Just wondering.
The locals at the junkyards around here don't intimidate me. I just yell "I'm from Immigration" and watch a terrified look come over their faces.
Actually, I feel kinda sorry for most of them. The kinds of "DIY" repairs I see on some of their vehicles out in the parking lot is pathetic. A 3-month old monkey can do a better job.

Since I dont speak Spanish, and the predominate language spoken in the yard I was refering to is Spanish, I am at a definate disadvantage. When I'm told that I have to wait to enter an area that is roped off while after a brief conversation in Spanish others are allowed to go past the rope and proceed to remove parts,I am at a disadvantage. I cant make it any plainer.
And if you need a hard to find part.. You can always talk with the core buyers.. I been all back in the gated yard in Wilmington.. They have all the 3rdgen motors and 700r4's back there already pulled.. Ready to be sent to Mexico for rebuild..
