smog shop needed

The smog shop here wouldn't smog my TTA because it looked too non-stock under the hood. Anyone know of a place in OC, preferably near Newport I will have no problems with? The only noticeable non-stock item is the open air filter. I have the cat in the factory location, also.

Please PM me rather than openly post if you do not with to put their name in public. Thanks.

And people wonder why I threw up a red flag at an EGR tube on a ZZ4 swap. There's your reason right there.

If you cant find someone, email me.

You just need a regular smog place rather than a "Test Only"? Allen

Any shop is fine, the car is registered in Washington right now, so just need the smog to transfer the title to CA.

It was originally a CA car.

what the hell is the difference in a "Test Only" station and a smog station?

i mean why does the state make you go to a "Test Only" instead of a smog shop? i never understood that.

I think they created "test only" stations for this reason:

I took my GTA to a test and repair facility. They told me my timing was 6 degrees off and it would be $30 to set my timing before they could smog it.

Basically if you don't want them to try to rip you off, you can go to a test only station, pay a few extra bucks for the smog check, but they won't tell you that you need un-neccesary repairs.

Once you car has reached a certain age, the DMV randomly turns cars into "test only" cars.

In 'enhanced emissions' areas, the state sends an unspecified amount/percentage of cars that are labeled as 'likely to pollute excessively' to 'test only' centers to be tested. That includes thirdgens. If you read the bureaucratic BS from the DMV, BAR, AQMD, etc you will find they make more cars fail smog tests at test only stations than at normal stations. Something like twice as many. If you want my .02 about it, I'll bet you a dollar they work harder to make cars fail at test only stations. The state actually had/has some bean counter that determined that a certain percentage of the cars MUST fail the test at a test only center, and they have some poor fool, who we pay, who's job it is to check and make sure the state is failing as many cars as they promised. This was all done in an effort to justify the program and to prove to the EPA that the state is making an effort (and an effective one at that) to reduce pollution.

In other words, its a bunch of feel good crap. Pretty soon they are going to outlaw farting.

yeah i guess that makes sense..

that was like my Bio Class in College. the professor only gave out 5 A's, 10 B's, 10 C's and the rest Fail.

we had 18 people all score 95% and higher in the class, so he chose from a hat the 5 that got A's, then did another drawing for the remaining 13 for B's, the rest got C's..

yeah i got a B with 98% in the class. Fair?? i think not. i took it all the way to the dean, he said its his class, he can grade how he wants, and he is expected to fail a certain amount of students because everyone cant pass the class, or it might seem he is not doing his job... ?? what the F*** is that? so when a teacher teaches something and the students do well, he is not doing his job????

so basically if everyone is smart and does the work, they cant pass because... its just not allowed?

same reasoning with the CA gov i see.. thats just stupid.. plain stupid reasoning.

ps, dont send your kids to UCLA or they will have to put up wth this crap like i did. 25k a year to get 98% and get a B. crap, all of it.

Hi 89******bird!
Did you get your car smogged?
If not, PM me, and I can give you a name of a place!
Only possible problem I see is the open K&N filter, and/or if the car also has a aftermarket chip.
I had to take my car every 2 years to a test only station! Seems Pontiac didn't make enough for California to get a good base line for testing! That's what California told me when I complained!! Watch out for test only stations though! I caught one guy try to take a screwdriver to something under the hood! I yelled real loud at the guy to get the f**k away from my car! The shop owner came running out, and told the guy to use no tools under the hood!

Good luck,

George
